Need Help! Hummer gone nuts!

So I tried doing some research on this and I'm not the only one who has had this problem. But it's really weird.

Mainly started happening when I hit a big bump a few days ago, like a big one........ EVerything works fine mechanically, but my electrical has taken over the truck and it's going nuts. It comes and goes but now I can't get it to go normal long enough to get it out of 4LO. :raar:

Here is a thread I found that the guy had exatly the problem i'm having but never got a result out of it.

Has anybody had the same problem? heard of it?

http://www.elcovaforums.com/forums/s...t=acting+weird

This is the description of the issue I'm having:

It shows on the dash "unknown driver" and the ABS,CHECK ENGINE,BRAKE,TRACTION CONTROL,OIL,BATTERY and the SECURITY comes on. ALL THE GAUGES SHOW ZERO, And later after the UNKNOWN DRIVER the dash shows SERVICE AWD.And whatever is on on the car like the A/C and the RADIO turns off.The windows and the lock becomes inoperative so i cant open or close windows or doors.
But the car works fine with no problem..I CANNOT switch gears and switch between the 4wd gears.
If i turn on and off the car everything goes away and back to normal until it happens again...a few seconds later
But after i turn on and off sometimes the SECURITY lights come on and stays on until i turn the car off and open the doors.

HELP!

Mine had similar issues, but not to the extent of your possessed beast. A lot of the issue lies in the instrument cluster. Those in the 03-06 (I believe, maybe up to 05) use the same cluster as in the Escalades & Denalis. These clusters have MUCHO issues.
I still need to replace mine, as my speedo now reads 0mph at all times. It used to come on and go off whenever it felt like it. Sometimes it would stay off for an hour while driving.

I was priced a rebuilt one through a local GM dealer for $275. But I have still yet to change mine.

Yikes. I hate computer problems. I know when I'm tuning my truck and the computer resets the gauges go to zero and it says "service awd" and all kinds of lights flash. I hope my truck doesn't catch that bug.

Your truck isn't named KITT & talks to you by chance, does it?

My dash will look the same as what you have when I use the programmer. Unknown driver, service 4WD and the other lights, I will hear a couple click sounds from under the hood and also a "hiss" noise until it is finished.

Because of seeing that while messing with the program I guess I am thinking maybe a possible ECM or PCM (what ever it is called) problem has developed in your case ??

Hope ya figure it out, Ed

Do you have an aftermarket remote starter installed? Could be bringing the data line down.

Honestly, you should probably get rid of it now & part it out. I call 'Dibs' on the anti-Zombie brush guard from Hell!!

Re: Need Help! Hummer gone nuts!

LOL, it's not dead .........yet.

And no, it does have the OEM remote start, but not aftermarket. It DOES have however an aftermarket head unit with GPS. Has never given any issues until now, been on there for 2 years.

Thoughts?

Re: Need Help! Hummer gone nuts!

If the radio has an interface to allow for door chimes, onstar to work, the interface could be corrupting the data line. I would disconnect wherever they tapped into the data line and see what happens. Likely tapped in behind radio somewhere. If its spliced into the factory radio connector would be an orange wire. What year of truck is this?

Re: Need Help! Hummer gone nuts!

Okay that helps a lot, it's the 03.

My OnStar light has been on red for a while, I forgot if it's supposed to be green or red even when it's not activated.

Also, I did add one of those chime/steering wheel adapters so it would work when you add an aftermarket headunit, so this weekend i'm gonna check that too.

Thanks guys.

Its the 2003? OEM remote start wasnt available in the 03 models so it must have some sort of aftermarket unit

ROUSHDEMON, it would be great if you would post a pic of your dash displaying that "Unknown Driver" message. Classic! Doubt if we'll ever get a chance to see that message! :D

Make sure your battery is fully charged, and disconnect the On Star (remove fuse "Info").

Re: Need Help! Hummer gone nuts!

I too have electrical gremlins in my 2006. The only aftermarket electrical item is a backup camera dealer installed when new that displays on the nav panel. I'll be driving along and the red OnStar light will come on, or the red neutral light under the 4 W drive buttons will come on (even though the buttons have been replaced), the lights come on during the day and the nav panel turns to night black, or I'll get in the Hummer and the clock has lost two hours, but it starts right up. Then once in a while the battery will go dead if it sits two days, so I just keep it on the battery tender in the garage now.

Re: Need Help! Hummer gone nuts!

That's crazy, Twilight Zone for sure.:notallthere:

So, more crazy stuff for me...... I was able to get it out of 4LO/Lock to normal 4HI..... then decided to f*k it..... If I pinched a wire while offroading and hitting a big dip I might UNpinch it by going again. So I did lol

Aaaaaaaaand so far it worked!!..... its crazy, I went and play with some mud.... went in deep water half way through my doors, I jumped a few bumps and vuaallaahh..... Lights are gone since Saturday and have not come back at all............. it's so freaking weird. I guess whatever was grounding that power block is back to it's place, I have no idea how it fixed itself:jump:

Re: Need Help! Hummer gone nuts!

Am no expert but IMHO it may very well be a sensor wire that has come lose behind the dash as a result of the sudden shock when you bottomed out. It will cost you a couple of grand to locate it and reattach it. Basically your :OWNED:

ROUSHDEMON 03-30-2013 07:35 AM

Re: Need Help! Hummer gone nuts!

Well with the exception that the lights haven't come back since........ I'm no expert either but it fixed itself the old fashion way..... bang it out.:D

It most likely was a lose ground somewhere for the BCM or a powerblock, whatever it was it has taken a break.

So no........... I'm not....... :OWNED:
