What is the best car wash cleaner to use for the H2 - I don't get mine muddy but I don't want to hurt the metal and Plastic and paint.

We use sunlite dish detergent and it works good but I dont want to mess it up.

Don't use dish detergent to wash a car. You wouldn't use car wash to wash your dishes, would you??

Meguire's Gold Class stuff works great, that's what I use.

Dish detergent strips off the wax.

H2 GIRL 05-19-2003 06:11 PM

What about SIMPLE GREEN?

Mike97ZJ 05-19-2003 06:23 PM

Simple Green is not car wash.

Hummer Man 05-19-2003 07:13 PM

A good quality MEGUIRES CARWASH liquid will work well. Use the stated mix dont over do it. Dry with clean white cotton cloths or a chamois.

Get a tall boyfriend with long arms and a ladder to do the roof.

KenP 05-19-2003 07:32 PM

I always use a ladder with rubber along the sides. Oh yeah, and flea killer soap.

I think I did hear or read it somewhere that dish washing liquid is great for car wash, never try it out yet.

Remember that class action lawsuit against contact eye drops which retails for $8 in a tiny tiny tiny bottle, but has the same content as $1 for 12 fl oz saline solution? It was proven beyond doubt and solution makers lost. You know what? when I talked to poeple about it, they still don't believe it and insisted eye drops are different than simple saline solution.

That does NOT mean you can use dish washing liquid to wash Hummer, but it could be true.

KenP 05-19-2003 10:04 PM

I have been told this on more than one occasion: Dish washing liquid is fine to use if you wish to strip the wax right off your truck. I have used it in the past just before a good waxing. The fellow who used to wash my H2 also told me that (I wash it myself now). Whether or not it is true, I do not know, but it is harsh and the truck does not feel "soft" or smooth after using it.

Exactly, dish soap will strip the wax off the vehicle. Try it out, no more nice beading. Always use soap designed for car washing.

I do use it though right before applying a fresh coat of wax to give a good deep cleaning.

If it'll strip the wax off your truck, imagine what it will do to a woman's delicate hands after an hour of washing dishes!

What I mean is that I was told to use dishwashing soap because it was supposed to be gentle enough for your skin as opposed to those other 'rough' car-wash detergents. Unless, off-course, things might have changed after 40 years after this advice came out.

That's the problem go get it Muddy. I just use an auto laser wash. They seem to do the best for me.

OrangeCrush 02-08-2006 12:41 AM

After we paint a vehicle, usually the first question is how long before waxing and what kind of wax.

Like the previous posters have mentioned, car wash soap can be used but only if you are looking to strip any wax off your vehicle. You don't have to buy expensive car wash soaps (some have wax built into it) You can go into some of these wholesale or tool places and you can buy it there.

Point is, use some sort of carwash soap.

Use a chamois to dry it off, don't grab a towel from your bathroom. The paint is basecoat/clearcoat. When clear is scratched, it leaves a white finish... using a bathroom towel will put minute scratches and swirls in the clearcoat. That's why sometimes (especially on a darker color) the paint looks "milky". It's the clearcoat that has millions of light scratches.

HTH's,

Mark

That's exactly why I don't go to those places. The teenagers that work there always seem to think it's funny to fcuk something up on your ride. They usually do a half-ass job anyway. I always wash my own vehicles. It takes longer, but it looks damn good when i'm done.
