I went upstate last week and was carefull behind trucks and I look up and there it was.About 1/4 inch max. Good thing is that its behind the rear view mirror.I will the insurance company to repair the chip next week 8,500 miles

ree 03-02-2006 02:47 PM

I voted "I had a chip and it was repaired well and happy about the repair" for my H2. It got drilled and glued very nicely and is barely noticable given that I've always got all sorts of bugs/dirt on the windshield. It's right in the driver area, but low down so I don't have to look through it.

On my previous vehicle, an Xterra, I had a similarly sized chip right in the center of my vision, I had it drilled and glued and it was a bad looking repair. It prevented cracks, but it was very visible.

DDWH 03-02-2006 03:16 PM

I got a few chips, one looks to have very tiny cracks coming from it. Just waiting for a big rig to kick up another rock, so he can buy me a new windshield

PackerFever 03-02-2006 04:02 PM

repalcing windshields in the mountains is almost an annual thing. I curretnly have a small chip low on the passenger side.

Edd 03-02-2006 04:06 PM

Proud member of the HUMMER CRACK Club (windshield and roof rails). Got mine doing 85 somewhere between Nashville and Atlanta.

fourfourto 03-02-2006 04:44 PM

So far a little better than 50/50 on the crack club.

MarK M 03-02-2006 04:53 PM

that picture almost looks like one of those UFO sitings...

HummerNewbie 03-02-2006 05:18 PM

Regardless of the windshield, I don't think I want anything to do with the "Crack Club"

Steve - SanJose 03-02-2006 05:23 PM

Got a few small chips, similar to my past SUV's.

Don't have the H3 yet, but have lost a couple of windshields on I-87 before (99 Ford F-250 Superduty and the wifes 04 Cadillac SRX) due to flying stones. Both times got hit right in front of my face and they both cracked real fast. The wifes prior ride (00 Ford Windstar) got a small chip real low on the windsheild and we had it repaired. You could hardly see the spot after.

DarthKarl 03-02-2006 06:33 PM

The windshield Gods have been kind to me so far, no hits yet.

I hope I haven't pissed them off with this

fourfourto 03-02-2006 09:14 PM

Over 50% so far have or had chips .Interesting
I guess I can expect another one in the next 6 months.

Agriv8r 03-02-2006 10:18 PM

HAVE 2 CHIPS ON 2 TRUCKS WITH LESS THAN 10 MILES ON THEM. IF TI HAPPENS, IT HAPPENS.

H3HUMVEE 03-02-2006 10:25 PM

My windshield got hit by a stone and cracked in the first week I had mine ... Still haven't fixed it .

HIHUMMER 03-02-2006 10:33 PM

I have a chip but figure that I'll wait to after Tellico...just in case

westhillsat 03-03-2006 04:12 AM

No chips yet, now wait till tommorrow

fourfourto 03-03-2006 09:24 AM

Still over 50% with chip damage,

Av1ator 03-03-2006 11:03 AM

I got a HUGE crack going down the interstate..Dealer replaced it for $800..my insurance company was not happy with that cause they said they could have had it done for $400..they paid up anyway with a $100 deductable.

HumbleAg 03-04-2006 12:08 AM

two chips so far (in 6 months).

both repaired well.

From what I've read in other posts, dealer ripped you off for that price.

dukein 03-04-2006 01:33 AM

got one.

Bling 03-04-2006 03:08 AM

I travel 140+ miles per day at 80+ miles per hour. 1st week - chip, next day crack, replace, less than 2 weeks later, crack, I gave up and live with the cracks.

Cedar Butte 03-04-2006 03:14 AM

I'm not sure how it works but there is actually a formula in the replacement glass forecasting processes of a company I used to work with that projected requirements based on the number of vehicles sold and the angle(slope)of the windshield. It's based on the energy transfer when an object strikes the glass. The more verticle the windshield the more enrgy transfered. My old Suzuki Samuri (20 yrs ago)was an awesome little rig but it went through 2-3 windshields a year.

flyboy350 03-04-2006 04:13 AM

Just like my old YJ you have to expect the worst with a flat windshield. Just got my H3 and went to the mountain to learn how to snowboard and picked up two chips on the way back. Looks just like the picture above...

Yeah, the dealers just call the same company that the insurance companies use and mark it up more.

fourfourto 03-07-2006 12:11 PM

Out of 58 polled 25 or 43% had no damage.57% have damage.

jp's-h3 03-10-2006 12:28 AM

When driving into the sun I can see a sh*tload of little chips in the front wondow, they are to small to see any other time!
Oh well, what can you do!

Chips? Or is it just normal sand pitting?

Okthenbye 03-11-2006 06:41 PM

I am on my 3rd windshield and it now has a new spider chip. It will no doubt grow but at this point I'm sure there will be another chip or crack coming to speed things up. I'll live with them for awhile now.

HummerNewbie 03-14-2006 01:18 PM

I just did over 1,000 miles between going to Tellico and back. As far as I know, no chips but will have to see after cleaning the bugs off

I did get hit by a mirror off an big Chevy dually coming down 75 yesterday though. He had a blowout and the tire just ripped apart. The tread flew up and tore his driver's side mirror right off. Another vehicle hit it, sending it right at my windshield. Didn't even chip it

Ipedog 03-14-2006 01:24 PM

Got smacked with a rock the other day. No crack or chip, but it did put a good scratch in the windshield.

fourfourto 03-17-2006 02:28 PM

Just got back from the chip guy.they did a bad job It is less noticable but I seen good jobs this is not one. They said it wont spread so thats most important. Its behind mirror so Ill wait for a few more chips and replace windshield down the road.I couldnt get a good pic of repair because of trees I need a open sky.I did notice several nicks on windshied,so this will be a recuring issue. All said at least I can live with it I am reluctant to do a windshied change before its a year old.All I know if I did less than good work I couldnt look the person in the eye.No one cares I will not go back to that glass shop. All island glass larkfield rd east northport NY
