I say that because a friend got a door from a dealer that was a retro-fitted H2 door. It was sloppy too.
Anyway here is the new door, notice that the outer bezel matches the texture of all the other plastic trim and bumpers on the H3. I would say, if you are unsure of templates and drilling, have the dealer do it. If you read the directions and take it slowly and check twice drill once, you can do it. ALSO A NOTE: ONCE YOU PUSH THE UNIT ON, YOU CANNOT REMOVE WITHOUT CAUSING DAMAGE. THE PUSH PINS ARE A ONE TIME DEAL. Good luck |

Great pic and advice, thank you H3Lady. This is appearing black in the pic, must be the light reflecting?
|
Just a reflection, it is bright chrome and boy does it look good. I have the locking cap too inside.
it will keep out the elements and keep this area clean. hey, if you had the dollars you could have the door power coated or black chromed. It does seperate from the bezel easy BEFORE INSTALLATION |
Very nice. How much $$?
I was kinda hoping it was black. I want to do all black accessories on my Slate Blue ride. H3wannabe |
msrp is 165.00
you can have it black powder coated. |
what is the GM part number of the locking fuel cap?

H3Lady,
Thanks for the update! I thought you said in another post the door doesn't come with the lock? Are the substituting the door lock with the cap lock, or did you get one from somewhere else? I love the look of it and will be getting it soon. I just need more ammunition when I go in and make sure I get all the parts for it (ie the locking cap and the door!) Looks great! Thank you for sharing! |
bought it seperate.

Hello H3Lady,
Does it attach with 2 screws??? Parts manager was mentioning it...I was just curious??? He said something about 2 screws and tape. The fit looks good.. I really like it.. |
Here goes
You pry/remove the original gas well with a plastic putty knife. It just snaps in. You get a template and drill 5 hole around the edge. You get 5 speed nuts that go in the holes and stop. There are 4 plastic fingers and 1 metal guide stud. You light put the unit with the outer bezel on, until it stop. Open the door and from the inside there are 5 holes in the side, use a "L" shape allen wrench and hold each speed nut and put till it snaps to all five. You will know it's seated when the rubber washer around the bezel is flat..easy |

For 18.00 do it. If he goofes, it's a new fender or cap he will need.
it only take 15 minutes to do...really if you push it on crooked, you can't remove it. it will break the pins.... |
Thanks for the instructions... Doesn't sound at all like what the parts manager described.. It sounds like a real solid fit.. This will definately be my next purchase....

Heres the cap on the Boulder Grey, definitely worth the expense
|
I talked with my parts manager today and he quoted me $189 installed. Now before we get all crazy here, I did confirm that this comes with a locking cap. Lucky me.

Yes, go for it and lets see after install
|
Some dealers are make their own packages with the locking cap.
The 189.00 with cap install is a super price. |
Well, sure enough, something is up. They're no longer available..something about a "recall" on them due to the assembly of them. I'm being told late August, but they're not sure. All they had were the horizontal line aftermarket ones that lock on the outside.
H3Lady, can you comment on this? All they have now are the aftermarket ones...not the ones that say Hummer on them. When they called GM Parts, they're telling them that they have only been released to GM Manufacturing and not dealers. I'm sure Georgemarcs is the one that says Hummer on it. I know yours is too. Hmmm. |
Yes, mine says Hummer and I got it at Sewell Dallas about two weeks ago
|

H3Lady knows as she has one.
Thanks Georgemarc. Does it look like H3Lady's or is it a custom H2 to H3 job? I only ask that as my dealer said it's either custom or aftermarket knock-off as the "licensed" ones have been recalled. |
It is the same as H3Lady's and I believe it a custom H2 to H3 job, looks good.
Will get a closer pic of it out here soon |
I will get you the gm number tomorrow.
Mine is the 100% one made for the H3, not converted from H2, there is a big dif. Look at the bezel around the chrome, it matches the trim on the H3. |

Any news to the recall of the gas doors H3Lady? Could you find that out tomorrow as well?
Thanks! |

Sorry, 2nd
|
165.00 for a gas cap... Thats insane
|
I will get a lot of ?'s answered monday morning.
I have a number I can call to get the info direct. The one above is a convered H2. These rumors of accessories being recalled within days of realease are insane. GM really does not want this as i cost them money. What was the reason for recall I alway ask? Oh, HERE IS THE PROBLEM WITH THE CONVERTED ONE, THE GAS CUP WHICH IS THE BLACK TRIM RING AND INSIDE SECTION JUST SNAPS IN THE H3, THE CHROME DOOR IS TO HEAVY FOR THE TRIM PIECE. The real one for the H3 install with snap riviets and it 100% secure. |

Here are photos of the GM Hummer chrome fuel cover (GM Part number 12499618) that we had installed this past Thursday by our dealer. It seems to have the same textured outer bezel that H3Lady described. It is attached by 5 screws, and I think they did a good job on the install. I feel lucky that we were able to find one, and hope there is not a problem with the design, assembly, etc.

Could someone please also post a pic of the lockable fuel-cap (not the door), which comes with the H3 chrome fuel door? |

srqhumdinger, that is the right one for the H3.
My son asked a few at HQ and no one knows of any problems with the chrome cap. What we think is that the normal everyday person cannot install it by themselves. Here is the cap alone - hope this helps... |
That is wild. I was standing right there when the guy in the parts department called up the GM parts department and asked for that part number. He put it on speaker phone so I could hear, and he said only a few were sent out then they were recalled due to an assembly issue. What that issue is I have no clue, but I was standing right there and heard it direct. He could have easily fed me that info to get the one they had in stock, but did that and told me that it didn't matter which one I wanted.
I'll ask around. |
Thanks for the photo, H3Lady... and thanks for the info, H3OH.
Damn... that cap is ugly. ![]() |

I am calling monday to the right person at HQ my son know. I will find out what the problem is. As for my cap and chrome door, it's perfect..and I can't see what wrong with it. If it is, I am blind. It is strong and plated well. OH, that's it, maybe be a bad batch of plating.. I know they are picky on the plating... |
The only thing is re-packaging to include the lock cap. To many people complained. Price may only raise a few buck only THAT IS ALL
I think I know who is getting the next load of them. |
