BRAKES!!! Stop Argh!
Hey all,
So I am curious about what might be the culprit.... My brakes are working.... BUT they dont seem to be slowing the rig down as it used to. I am noticing that by the time I get to the stop sign/light that the rig is still moving faster then it normally would. No it isnt a driver error :-P So I am wondering if this could be a pad issue or a booster issue? It does have about 135,000+ miles on it and I bought it as the second owner. i dont know if the brakes were replaces in the first 100,000 miles or not. I dont have any lights, and really if i stomp the brakes the truck will stop hard, so it has me slightly confused. Any thoughts on how to check this out? Thanks |
Re: BRAKES!!! Stop Argh!
Mine is the same after the aftermarket wheels. What's weird is they aren't any heavier than stock wheels, might even be a little lighter.
I never understood why people always complained about the brakes on these things because before it would stop on a dime but now it definitely doesn't have the stopping power it used to. I know my pads are the factory pads and they have a ton of meat left on them. I do feel a pulsating in the pedal when I hit it hard. I'm assuming (and hoping) that is the ABS kicking in as opposed to the booster or master cylinder going bad. My brake fluid looks like Coke, I just don't have the time between work and getting my damned bachelors to put any time into my truck. If you find anything out keep me posted! |
Re: BRAKES!!! Stop Argh!
I can't say this is it, but look under the dash and see if brake fluid is leaking in. Had that happen when I bought it (48k) and a few thousand later again. Both under warranty, both times brake -booster? was replaced.
Didnt notice any changes in braking power but if I had left it long enough I'm sure it would have happened. |
