Dropped off the 2003 H2 I bought (private party) at the original dealer where it was bought for service.

They gave me a Buick Lesabre through the Enterprise on scene.

Is this normal?

It's an H2/Cadillac dealer. Kind of expected more because it's under warranty. Am I being a picky bitch? Or is that lame?

What do you usually get for a loaner?

My Buick smelled like an orthapedic shoe.

I can't believe you said that! "Smelled like an old lady?" LOL!!!
They used to give me a Suburban or pickup, then they gave me a sh---ty Cadillac, last time it was a Trail Blazer only after I refused to drive a Grand Prix. Loaners must get smaller over time.
Two weeks ago, instead of getting an old lady loaner, I tried out a 2002 Mercedes G55 AMG. Went and got the hubby for lunch!

The only thing I get from my local dealer is a ride home. They have never given me a loaner.

I got a trail blazer loaner..

Thing drove like a buick and smelled like 3 month old taco bell...

I do my own service now

Call GM customer service and let them know about that. I'm sure things will change pretty quick.
The dealer is supposed to give you another GM vehicle of comparable size and value as a loaner. Don't let them stiff you or put you in some crappy little econo-box coffin.

Dropped mine off today, and got a Bonneville. I was made fun of by my passenger that it was an old persons car. I asked for a Cadillac STS, but the only other thing they had was a Pontiac Vibe .
So, I opted for the Bonneville.
I normally get either a Trailbazer or a 4door Cadillac. No complaints...as long as I don't get a Vibe!

H-TOO. Just wanted to point something out. One of the perks of buying a vehicle new is
loaner cars. Many dealerships don't give out loaner cars except to those who bought it new from them. That may be why you were dissapointed with your car. Just something for everybody to keep in mind though, loaner cars are a huge expense for service departments, and if they become better with time, you're just going to be paying for them on the other end, if you know what I mean.

devilsfan 03-23-2005 11:39 AM

Hummertech - it depends on the dealer. We bought both our trucks new from the same dealer. If I take the H2 in, I get Enterprise. If my husband takes his Escalade in, he gets an identical Escalade as a loaner. The dealer has made it clear that they have no future plans to offer H2s as loaners.

As far as loaners from Enterprise, you CAN call ahead and request an SUV. I usually do so when I make an appointment with the dealer - just tell them you'll need a loaner and want an SUV. I've had an Envoy and a Trailblazer before. Not an H2, but it's better than a Buick.

In many dealerships loaners are a product of the sales office and not the service department. I've never done the rental car thing but have always gotten demos from the dealers I bought my vehicles from and that always goes through the sales office. As Hummertech pointed out, this generally is a buyer perk not a perk of just bringing your vehicle there for service.

Of course some dealerships might offer more service than others but, as stated, you are going to end up paying for it any way one way or the other.

H-Too 03-23-2005 03:57 PM

I understand that the dealer might be more accomodatign to me if they knew I bought the car there. However, while it was not purchased by myself at this dealer.... the prior owner did by it there. That should mean something. Not alot. But, something.

Really, the Buick wouldn't be a big deal if we weren't getting 10" of snow tonight.

I've had everything from a Trail Blazer to a Caddy CTS. I know the dealer I'm at now doesn't really offer loaners except for a warranty job over a couple of days.

SOCRATES 03-23-2005 04:05 PM

Since my dealer is Cadillac/Hummer, I always get a new Deville or Escalade.

Gold Coast Hummer gave me a Deville loaner that smelled like half a number 7 from Jersey Mikes Subs!

lexpro 03-23-2005 05:01 PM

I would say that from my experience working for highline dealerships and seeing which direction that Hummer is going with extending its warranty, the Alpha line, and also asking new and some existing dealers to do Hummer only dealership points(no other franchises) that they will also eventually put H3's into loaner service. I think the dealerships will be similar to some of the Landrover dealerships (luxury off road).

Be careful on how far you push the issue. You wouldn't want the dealer to take anything out on you. Just a word of advice.

ATRH2 03-23-2005 05:50 PM

I always get a Trailblazer

Dan 04-04-2005 04:48 PM

The SUT is going in this afternoon for a handfulf of warranty items. I asked the service guy for a loaner and he said he'd reserve me a Tahoe or Trailblazer. That's fine with me.

Next he says "GM will only pay for 3 days of the loaner, after that you have to pay." Does that sound right to you guys? I suspect the SUT will be there for a few days & don't want to pay for the rental if I don't have to.

BTW, I didn't buy it from them.
