I know the air ride has a very good ride and the extra 2" comes in handy while playing.
I've never driven the standard model so I can't compare. Yell'r 04 Lux w/ air, sunroof,F&R brush bars 04 Chevy D/A CC SLT LB |
I test drove both the Air and Standard. I could not tell the difference.

The result...a smoother on-road ride. But like most folks, myself included, you won't be able to tell. If I'm not back in five minutes... wait longer! |
Duramax, have you ever measured the amount of travel the air suspension add's? The book may say 2" but mine adds almost 5"(4 3/4)

N2,
I've noticed that too. Definitely more than 4". Izn't zat veird!!! "Skull and Bones" Member Since 2003 |
Dennis,
I don't have air suspension on mine and it still gets 16" of clearance. Zats really veird! |
Buckeye,
I will put my 8" of ground clearance up against your 16" any day. Just remember, its not the size, its how you use it. ![]() |
Shaggy,
You have clearly been spoiled on those easy Disneyland-like trails in Colorado. Bragging about 8" will only help you in West Hollywood. You're welcome to come out here and try but I ask that you start a day or two in advance so you don't slow us down. |
I've driven both and can't tell the difference. I'd say don't get the air suspension because more chance for stuff to go wrong as you may have seen on the forum. However whenI go offroad I wish I had the air. 2" makes a difference. So it really depends on the extent you go wheeling. Go with your gut.
|
Zazing...I usually go with my gut too...but Buckeye told me it was too darn large and put me on a friggin' diet!!
Do the air. How many vehicles do you get that option with? The added height is cool, the cool sounds are amusing and there is one other benefit that is widely overlooked: it articulates and performs much better in offroad conditions. I've raced another H2 through the forest...he told me he deeply regretted not getting air after trying...TRYING to catch me. (He said my rear-end was smooth and he was all over the place). As far as difference on-road...doubt you could notice it. Oh yeah, the air-outlet is nice too. Oh yeah...and N2ITNSD, you don't have no 5"....this is clearly an example of how "some" of us represent 2" as being 5" ![]() ![]() |
Another feature of the air ride is the vehicle is capable of self leveling. If you load a lot of heavy **** in the back or hook a trailer up, the vehicle will level itself out automatically. This along with the air outlet and everything else mentioned above makes the air ride a nice option.
