Can anyone tell me if I can draw (up to) 30A from the rear hitch plug? I need an intermittent connection to power my new air compressor which comes with 30A fuse & battery clamps. Thanks!

Here's the trailer connector:

Based on this, Pin "E" (Battery) is fused for 40A through stud 1 of the underhood fuse block.

Personally, I would run you another wire. I am not sure about the trailer wiring crap. I have run trailers on my '03 since I have had it and had power to the pin on the plug. A few months ago when looking at something else I noticed the wiring diagram saying that the 12V pos to the trailer plug ran off of stud 1. Well I didn't have a fuse in plug 1, it had a little red plastic dust cover looking thing in it, but I still had power back there.

So, who knows where or IF mine is fused. It might be hooked up to stud 2 but I never checked.

Thanks guys!!

Klaus, my trailer connector is configured differently. From the drawing you provided, my ground is in position "C" (8 o'clock) and battery is in position "F" (2 o'clock). This is both as diagramed on the cover of the connector, as well as verified with a voltmeter. All other positions are not powered with engine off.

Perhaps an 04 difference? Though my Stud 1 also just had that plastic plug cover...

Paragon, I need this power only 20-40 minutes, once a month (at most), just to hook up my portable compressor when airing up -- hate the idea of having to run a dedicated new wiring for that...

Many of those compressors are simply powered from the 12V accessory or cigar lighter. Put you a cigar lighter plug on the end of the wire on your compressor and then you can run it from the front or the back.

Don't let Finally fool you. Put the pieces together... He likes flames, and it's getting cold outside.
