so are people out there with their h3's already getting the stated gas milage? interested to hear what you guys with the 33"s are getting. i hope its relatively the same

I'm getting 12-13 mpg in the city, I have an auto with 33" tires, the A/C is on 90% of the time, which I think it affects mpg performance.

I went to LA this past weekend, a 540 mile round trip, and I got about 15 mpg.

If we are going to get 12-13 mpg what is the point of the small H3?

Well, I think that with the H2 I'd be getting about 8 mpg (I'm pretty hard on the pedal), sooo, 13 mpg is pretty good for me. Besides, the H3 is very confortable and I can maneuver a lot better than with the H2.

My SUT averages 11.6 mpg in 50/50 city/highway driving.

We had our Hummer Happening this past weekend, and I filled up before we went. The trip included about 3 hours of highway driving and about 4 hours of off-roading total. Total for the tank was 14.92 mpg. I didn't think it was that bad w/ all the slow, geared down driving we did.

Oh really? that's pretty good!... well, I'm pretty sure I'm getting 13 with my H3, I don't know what's wrong because I was supposed to get 15-16 mpg!

How about you guys (H3 owners).. are you getting the same mpgs?

First tank of gas run through our H3 with 33's was about 13mpg. That was about 50/50 highway, city driving...pretty much all with the sunroof wide open and the A/C blowing.

I'm at 12 mpg, all city lots and lots of stop and go. At the Hummer Happening (about 1/2 highway and all day in 4 low with the locker) I did really well! I can't tell you the exact numbers but I think it was a little over 1/4 of tank for the whole thing.

I am getting around 14 to 16 on the hiway. Thats with some rolling hills. I also pulled my 12 foot cargo trailer that is 6 ft tall inside, with about 2400 lbs total. It pulled it quite well, I was suprised. My speed was around 65 to 70 mph up and down small hills. I just shifted it in 3rd gear and left in 3rd the whole way up the hiway about 70 mile distance. It pulls nicely in 3rd gear, with about 2800 to 3200 rpms on the tacometer. I fill up at the bgining and the end, and I was getting around 10 to 11 mpg. I dont think thats to bad in 3rd grear the whole way.

Wow, I must be gentle on the go pedal. Second tank of gas through the truck I went 350 miles on 20 gallons, which equates to 17.5 mpg. 75% highway driving (including a round trip from Columbus OH to Cleveland OH) with some small rolling hills. Nearly all that time was with the a/c on and the windows up. I suspect that the mileage should stay the same or get a little better with break in.

Lux and adventure packages, automatic, 33" tires, brush guard, rock and roof rails.

I'm a 61 year old retired Air Force pilot and my wife and I just completed a wonderful driving vacation in our new Shadow Green Metallic H3 (automatic transmission) from St. Louis, MO to Dillon, CO. What a ball the H3 was on the trails by Dillon!!
We averaged 16.6 mpg overall, with the best being eastward on Hwy 70 in flat Kansas at an honest 18.1 mpg with the AC turned on ice cube cold and a 30 mph tailwind at a steady 68 mph. The worst was 12.5 mpg in Dillon, CO doing some offroading and keeping the petal to the metal at the high elevations. I was somewhat concerned about the power in the H3 on the mountain grades near the 11,000 ft Eisenhower Tunnel on Hwy 70, but the H3 always maintained 70 mph even though I had the petal almost to the floor on steep grades in the mountains and at 9,000 ft plus, but it kept a steady 70 mph just fine with about 450 pounds of people and luggage. The temperature guage barely moved and the engine stayed surprisingly cool on a warm day. The smooth highway ride of this vehicle was a pleasant surprise for a true off roader like myself.
My wife is allergic to the tanin used to cure most leather seats so we have base model and I found those Ebony cloth seats to be VERY COMFORTABLE on the long drive. In a heavy mountain thunderstorm on Hwy 70 that had some cars pulling off the road the H3 stuck to the pavement like glue. Near Silveton,CO the Colorado Hwy Patrol had the traffic stopped because of about 14 inches of water from the deluge on an area about 80 ft. long, but when the sergeant saw my Hummer he asked me if I would drive him across to the other side with some flares. I told him the salesman told me it would do 24 inches of water and it tackled the 14 inches of still water without a problem. After moving some junk out of the backseat to get him in, when we got to the other side he said he honestly just wanted to ride in an H3! It came with the satellite radio which I wasn't crazy aabout at first, but after this long vacation - I'm sold - it was great for passing the time on that long flat stretch of KS highway. We had no problems with people making hand gestures at the H3 like I'd heard, but I do have a big decal in the back window from the dealer that says "I drive an ALL AMERICAN HUMMER" with a small flag on it.

Sweet story Jim, Ya all belive those stickers???
It does better than an H2 but it is still heavy for it's size so enjoy and after break in you should be fine. Air intake can help MPG a bit.

yeah this mileage bums me out a little bit, and i have the cover off my airbox for the added air intake, ill fill up today and see if that made a difference, otherwise ill throw the cover back on

Don't forget guys. A lot of you probably still have less than a couple thousand miles on your H3. As the engine breaks in more as you put miles on it, your gas mileage will improve. Your first few fill-ups with the H3 will have the worst mileage. It should only get better with each tank assuming driving styles are the same.

You should probably put the airbox cover back on. With the cover off, your intake has a much greater opportunity to suck in the hot air surrounding it from the engine bay. Not only will you be loosing power, but your decrease in power will also reduce your MPG due to the fact that your engine will require to do more work in order to meet your driving style. However, an aftermarket cold-air induction system should accomplish what you are trying to do.
