WTF is going on??? Media has no clue yet.

Unusual especially when it includes phone lines.

Lost a few conference calls with L.A.

FYI. There was an anouncement yesterday that L.A. and Melbourne are targets from terrorists today.

I see the power out on the news, I had no idea it was a terrorist warning on it.

I hope they get a handle on it quickly.

PARAGON 09-12-2005 07:16 PM

Sounds like it was an accident. Nothing to do with the low level threat.

VTSTOMPER 09-12-2005 07:21 PM

[bs] probably due to low fuel levels...now gas prices will rise again! [/bs]

Worker: "oops"
Utility: "You're Fired!"

Lee Sapaden, a spokesman for the county's Office of Emergency Management, said the massive power failure was caused after an employee "inadvertently cut a power cable" at a DWP substation in West L.A.

The outage dimmed much of downtown Los Angeles and other parts of the city, including the southeast San Fernando Valley, Sapaden said. Ron Deaton, head of the city Department of Water and Power, said at one point three of the city's four power generating stations in the Los Angeles Basin had shut down.

Deaton said two stations that receive power from the generators malfunctioned, causing the power plants to shut down in Wilmington-Seal Beach and Playa del Rey. When the remaining plant could not keep up with demand, power shut down to large swaths of the city.

Oh dog poop! was that the wire on your left or on my left?

Steve R 09-12-2005 09:11 PM

But here's the good news: in the few hours while the power to L.A. was down....we saved enough energy to run a small country for a month AND the air started to clear-up a bit.

The downside is all those vending machines with frozen ice-cream....oh the horror!!!!

dochummer 09-12-2005 09:37 PM

It easily off-set the pollution and environmental damage that Hummers have inflicted for the last 10 yrs....

Steve R 09-12-2005 09:47 PM

Wait...we've covered that already:

Being that I am an insulation contractor, the thousands of homes I've insulated have saved enough energy, pollution and environmental impact to offset every Hummer ever made for their entire life on the road probably 10-fold.

I am your energy savior, redemption is at hand. In the glorious words of The Who: You're all forgiven!!!!!

Everyone but Dennis....my energy savings don't cover Canada
