I want to take off my SUT's tire carrier and spare tire, does anyone know of any license plate relocation kits other than the REAL WHEELS kit? I would like to have the plate in the center of the rear, not off to the side...

My DIY setup. Lighted plate frame & a few holes in the bumper.

MONSTERMATT 01-02-2006 12:56 AM

would i still be able to mount it like that with a full size spare on, and still have the tag visible? it is a 37x 13.50 r18 grappler, im exteremly curious to know

TXSUT 01-02-2006 01:51 PM

Matt, no, it won't still be visible. One thing you might try is one of those hitch-mounted license plate holders (if you don't plan on using the hitch on a regular basis).

Dan,
If you don't mind, what do the tow hooks end up looking like after you remove the tire carrier? Can you post a pic of the entire rear? I am curious as to how the wiring from the tirecarrier light works out as well...

Here's the best pic I have of Dan's truck. I'm sure if he sees this he'll get you a better one.

wonder where i can get a hitch mount licence plate holder?

TXSUT 01-03-2006 01:35 AM

The Hidden Hitch company makes one. Go to Hiddenhitch.com and search on part number 5443 to see what I'm talking about. Only issue you'll have is running a plate light to stay legal.

The tow hooks are integrated with the tire carrier hinge and latch, so you'll need to track down a set from an SUV that didn't come with a carrier. They're around, just ask.

The light wire has a bulb housing on the end that won't work so it gets cut off. I stuffed the wire back into the bumper and it now comes into the lighted plate frame from the back.

Let me know if you need any other info! I'll see if I can find a better pic of the whole bumper...

awesome! Thanks

Do you want to get rid of the tire carrier?

I have got an '04 and my wife hates our carrier
because of the pin and plate holder of to the side...

Dan 01-04-2006 12:53 PM

I sold mine about a year ago.

BLACK SlUT 01-05-2006 04:52 PM

You can have mine for $1000... The dealership wants at least $1500 for it. '06 SUT with 2300 miles....

DanC 01-06-2006 12:21 AM

I'm sure they do but I can get a genuine h2 SUT carier brand new from an online parts site for well under $1000...
Thanks though...
