Guys,

Looking to swap out my chrome door handles for black versions - however the received wisdom to date is that this is a tricky job - I'd be grateful if those who have done it could outline the process and give me a view on the difficulty.

Thanks

I started on my 2003, just before I sold it. It is a huge PITA. You have to remove the window track and a bunch of crap for the fronts. Someone on here made a tool so you don't have to do this, but I'm 90% sure that it will take you 6 or 8 hours doing this your first time.
Use the find button (if it is working) and you'll see some posts on this.
good luck,
tim.

UNBOLT THE FRONT WINDOWS FROM THE REGULATOR, THEN DON'T PULL THEM ALL THE WAY OUT, BUT PULL THEM PARTIALLY OUT OF THE TOP OF THE DOOR AT AN ANGLE, JUST BE CAREFULL SO YOU DON'T SCRATCH YOUR PAINT. STOP WHEN YOU GET JUST ENOUGH CLEARANCE TO REACH YOUR BOLTS. IT IS A LITTLE BIT OF A PAIN, BUT IF YOU GO ABOUT IT WITH A LITTLE PATIENCE IT'S NOT TOO BAD. BACK DOORS ARE SIMPLE.

You can do it in less than 2.5 hours with a "kit" like this which is a 10mm wrench with one end cut off to allow you a reach to get to one nut that is the cause of having to pull the window.

I remember this from a long time ago. I hope this helps.
