Was bored...

so this last weekend I decided to make a rear sleeping platform/storage compartment. Wanna know what sucks? Having a broken wrist, only being able to use one hand, and trying to measure, cut, and nail together this whole thing in one day (looking for props from the T&A on my manliness here, ladies)...

Total cost was about $70 for the wood (didn't need it all)
and $15 for the hinge

Not bad for $85. I've put carpet on it now, and everything is cool. It's 5'2" long, not even close for me (5'10") but I can sleep sideways & the dogs can sleep there too. Plus with the rear awning, I can open the rear door and have a fully enclosed (but open) and just sleep w/my feet off the back.

ever think about sleeping with your feet through the front two seats? That way you could have the rear door closed. ;)

No, but that's a great idea! The center console acts as a pillow, too. Oh, yeah, plus I prefer sleeping w/the door open, except in bear country. I might do that if it's raining and I'm too lazy to set up a tent.

Unfortunately, no. I can't set up a tent yet (just got my stitches out, and no strength yet on my wriest). I'm hoping I have some strength back by memorial day weekend.

Of course, I'll get plenty of practice in Aug/Sep. Planning a monthlong camping/backpacking trip. The H3 will be my primary transport and backup sleeping rig on crappy days, with luck it will be comfortable (will have some 1" foam pad over the wood to sleep on by then).

Nope, booted her last fall (after 7 years!). Now I'm single and enjoying it (I actually bought the Hummer as 'separation therapy' as my friends put it :) ).
