Smart vs H2
http://www.leftlanenews.com/2006/06/...lass-vs-smart/
After watching this clip, I wonder how far the Smart will tumble if it was a H2 instead of that S-class:D Guess we'll find out in 2008? |
Re: Smart vs H2
Sweet, we could use them as soccer balls on the road. :D

Re: Smart vs H2
Well, I think the fact that Zap, the company that started importing these things last year, has had to make significant modifications to meet (minimum?) crash safety standards is a pretty good indication of how weak they are. However, we will see some redesigned version here in the US that's cheaper to make.
Personally, when 1,500lbs vs. 6,400lbs occurs, the Smart isn't going to seem so smart afterall. And the S-Class is designed to meet bumpers with other cars. The H2 will come in at a much different place on the frame. The S-Class also weighs less than an H3. And finally, we don't know at what speed this occured. Here's the NCAP ratings: Frontal Impact: http://www.euroncap.com/content/safe...p?id1=1&id2=29 Side Impact: http://www.euroncap.com/content/safe...p?id1=1&id2=69 And that is for a SMART Vs. SMART, kind of like SPY Vs. SPY. From EuroNCAP: Can results be compared between different categories of cars? No. Results should only be compared within the same group. The frontal testing method mirrors a crash between two similar sized cars. The Euro NCAP tests cannot be used to predict the outcome of such crashes between cars of different heights and masses. |
Re: Smart vs H2
That little thing will be thrown around like a pinball on U.S. Highways. That is untill it's thrown in front of a semi. Then it becomes a speed bump.
No thanks... |

Haha. You could fit the entire thing inside the wheelbase of the H1. I'd buy one and strap it to the roof and put "H1 Escape Pod" on the side of it. :D Maybe write, "In the unlikely event of an enemy missile threat, jettison Pod as decoy. Complete with live Hippie operator for realness." "Not to be used as a floatation device. Will cushion a rollover however." "Hit this thing on the highway last night, and decided to bring it home and eat it for dinner." |
Re: Smart vs H2
I want to see what happens when they try a IIHS side impact on one? it should look like a freight train hit it.
we did some testing about 8 years ago on those milk jug cars that were around, they did fairly well even when we ran them at -40*. they passed Ncap for a little peice of crap |
