Anyone know est. cost for paint?

Was thinking of switching from yellow to metallic black. Anyone know the ball park figure? $5K?

Don't switch Man! What are you thinking? That's like saying "I'm thinking about batting for the other team".

Keep it yellow.

Re: Anyone know est. cost for paint?

I got quotes from two local reputable paint shops last summer to paint my 05 and it was going to be between $9.5K and $11K (no custom work, just one color). Alot of the cost was labor having to almost totally disasemble the vehicle and then re-asemble it. I guess I could have saved some money by not having it put back together, but oh well. Unless you have a buddy in the paint/body business thats going to give you a good deal, I would be real hesitant going in for a $5K paint job. Just my opinion.

Re: Anyone know est. cost for paint?

As mentioned above, the 10K is about avg. for a quality paint job. They will have to take the truck apart: doors, hood, rear gate, all need to come off an be taken apart just to start. than all the sanding and preping. IMO, getting the yellow color off would be a wise choice, but Desert Sand is the way to go. :jump:

Was told at the dealer (Houston) that a color change would be approximately 10K.
All of a sudden, red wasn't my favorite color anymore.:D

that's more in line with what i was thinking. $10k.

its something that has crossed my mind also, but i really like white, and aftermarket paint would never hold up like factory paint, so... maybe i'll sit tight until the truck is a bit too banged up to go on, and then get it painted some kinky color or other.

Jealous, as are most who purchased an H2 but forgot to add color.

Hey why spend $10K on a paint job when you can go out and spend $35K & trade your truck in for a different color limited edition right.:jump:

The only reason I can think of to buy yellow H2 is so Adam won't pee on it (what's the point?) :jump:

Re: Anyone know est. cost for paint?

I just quoted a price for the local Hummer dealer to paint an H2 pink. Forgetting the nasty color choice, I told them it would be between 9-10K.

Depending on the quality of the job. (for instance, a "show job" ALWAYS requires painting it twice) materials would be around 2K, by the time you add time to remove and install EVERYTHING, refinish and then wetsand and buff an freakin' hummer, you'd easily run up a 10K bill.

Re: Anyone know est. cost for paint?

The cost depends on the company and their attention to detail. There are several ways you can go with it. Just a few ideas to play with;
Go two tone for one. Less paint and body work.
Check out the local trade/tech schools and get them to do it as a class assignment. I had a 1951 Chevrolet done for the cost of paint and a case of beer. (yes, this was several years ago)
Also, check out the local collages/design class. Offer a cash prize for a paint design for your Hummer. Students always need extra money.
Check on getting a decal for the sides. Black heckerboard, about 2" high and a taxi sign for the top. :)

Wow, after reading the posts, It seems the color yellow is not too popular. I think it looks nice and really stands out. Just looking for a change and thought maybe changing the color would be an option but for $10K, I'll have to wait.
