Mounting a UMPC in my H2
About three weeks ago I got a new toy. An Ultramobile PC, a TabletKiosk eo i7210 to be specific.
This is what people were referring to as Origami devices until this recent winter when Microsoft revealed that Origami was a spec for UMPCs. It is really just a tablet PC with a touch screen up to about 7 inches running Windows XP Tablet Edition. It's sort of half way between a high end PDA and a full-sized tablet/slate notebook PC (BTW, I'm not interested in debates on the relative usefulness/capabilities of these devices...it's useful to me). I don't have a nav unit in my H2, just the base stereo/CD/casette unit and I thought that a UMPC would be a good way to get navigation capabilities, replace my Creative Zen Touch music player, and have any other Windows desktop software handy. I wrote up the project in two parts: Part 1 Part 2 Since the i7210 is fairly new on the market, I had to hack up a mini-tablet cradle made for a different product. Thought I'd share. Here are some teaser pictures. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

BTW, I'm using a bluetooth GPS receiver (Holux GPSlim 236 using SiRF III chipset) stashed in one of the overhead console storage bins.
