Tried it today with a kit from Best Buy. Hooked it all up but when I git the CD button on front of the factory radio it would not work. I'm thinking maybe the standard, single cd stereo you get in the base model is not capable of doing this? Has anyone tried this? I did a search and it looks like you can do it if you have the monsoon system. Any suggestions would be great. Must have iPod integrated!

No doubt, been I have the monsoon 6 disk changer system, and nobody seems to know if there is an aux in the back to hook in an ipod. Anyone know about this let us know.

guys there are some postings here about what you are looking for .I believe you need to buy a special adapter that hoos into the factory harness.

BABHUMV 12-03-2005 01:50 PM

I've looked too. nothing as of yet. I'll just use the FM modulator for now.

I think the issue for the base model radio is that it does not know that there is an external source. Like a exernal cd changer. It just doesn't have that capability. The harness that splices in the factory radio is easy to install but the radio will not recognize it.

Try these guys, I think they make what you need.

I am having the same issue. My FM modulator sucks, and I'd like a better option. I'd get an aftermarket stereo, but really hate the look of the plastic installation adapter with the plastic storage bin used to make the stereo fit in the dash....

What you need to get is an aux input adapter made by PAC Audio. It's the AAI-GM24 and you can see it here about half way down the page. It will let you keep both your CD changer and your XM (if you have that), and it provides a direct connection for your iPod so the sound is great. I'm getting mine hooked up as soon the the adapter comes in. I'm going to have it professionally installed and they're going to run the charger directly to the back of one of my cigaretter lighters instead of having the wires hanging out all over the place. I'll post pics when I'm done but I'm planning on using the cradle that came with my ipod and just velcroing it to the flat area right below the climate controls. If you position it just right between the fan control and the vent control, all it blocks is one of the cigarette lighters. It's the best way I could come up with to hook up my ipod without it looking and sounding like $hit.

If you do decide to get the PAC AAI-GM24, make sure you get the newest version (version 2.4.12). That version has been updated to work with 2006 vehicles and I have confirmed with PAC that it will work in the H3.

You can get a new Alpine stereo with an Ipod connector for around $400.00. The Alpine plays the Ipod songs write on the screen, you can pick song, artist, playlist.

Mike E 12-16-2005 11:28 PM

Is there a particular model Alpine that you are talking about? I had an alpine stereo in a car years ago and really liked it.

H3 Hummer 12-16-2005 11:36 PM

Yeah, I have the CDA-9853

go here

and click on ipod picture. I put my ipod in the glove box and never ever see it any more.

I have the Alpine 9820cd-xm with xm radio and adapter to hook my Ipod into and it works great. You juts have to add an antenna no extra receiver for XM.

I have looked at this for a little while now and I think I might go this route

Everything I have read sounds good and you can hook it up wiht an FM modulator that actualy plugs into your antana plug in the back of the unit. This will eliminate interference, and it also has an additional aux imput for anything else (XM)

If you do, let us know how you like it.

Just got my son's H3 from the installer......... had Infinity Kappa Prefect 6.1's in the front, 63.5's in the doors and two JL W7 woofers in the rear. The installer first told me he needed an adapter, but then was able to install a relay and a swith to the XM band. Now my son just flips the switch and the IPOD plays when the XM is displayed. They ran RCA outputs and we bought the Monster Cable RCA to mini stero adapter!!! The IPOD ROCKS!!! My son is into Rap and with the JL W7 woofers the whole vehicle shakes! I laugh because it feels like someone is playing with my hair (like it's standing up) when the base hits hard.............. and a flip of the switch and it's back to the XM. Sweetest little hook-up I've seen and it didn't cost ANYTHING extra.

or bass................ lol.

nmikes 01-04-2006 05:09 AM

I'm thinking of having the Harmon Kardon drive system installed... anybody have any experience with this?

H3 Hummer 01-04-2006 03:34 PM

I think it is nice but don't get the FM transmitter option get the hard wire for sure.

Also, I would just be a little concerned about theft. If that fancy screen was on the dash it might show off to potential thieves what you have in your H3.
