has anyone used Surco roof cross bars??
I've seen people using the Surco racks, but what about crossbows? They are like $70/pair plus the $50 brackets to mount to the roof rails.
Does anyone know if they fit well? I am looking for something to just put up there to mount a high lift jack to, instead of buying the GM roof crossbars. can be seen here: http://www.autoanything.com/roof-racks/69A2323A0A0.aspx Thank you |
Re: has anyone used Surco roof cross bars??
I used them with my Surco rack and they're ok. If you're looking to save a few bucks, they'll work fine. You have a small plate with two holes that you drop between the exisitng H3 rails. Use the screws to connect and tighten. No rattles, if that's what you were worried about. Also even though the parts are cheaper than stock, you'll feel like you spent too much when you put it together. After using both, I'm considering going back to the OEM ones or OEM "like" ones. I think Stallion Customs keeps a set on sale for the low $200's.....

Thank you for the input. Do you know how high they sit above the surface of the roof? Similar to the OEM ones? And do you have any pictures of them installed? |

They're higher than the OEM ones. I'll measure how high they rise above the roof tonight and post. Here's another thread that may be of interest and I have a couple of pics posted there. I also included one below:

Re: has anyone used Surco roof cross bars??
BradO - thank you for the pics and description. I really like how the crossbars look actually, a little more obvious than the OEM ones. Another Q - is it possible to mount a surco rack without the crossbars in between? Just mount it to the 4 adapters so it sits a bit lower?

You could, but you would have to fab a flat piece to secure it. The existing mounts won't connect to the racks existing connection points. You would also lose any support to carry heavier items.
