Great Going Canada....pathetic

The Big Spenders Conservative Party figured out a way to get back the money they are spending...

"Along with $4.5 billion in green spending, the government will slap automakers and importers with a "gas guzzler levy" of up to $4,000 for low-mileage SUVs and sports cars and a rebate for fuel-efficient autos of up to $2,000. "

IS this is effective starting Monday.....so I guess low-mileage SUV and sports cars will be 4000$ more expensive then the US

Re: Great Going Canada....pathetic

The budget also imposes a "green levy" on new gas-guzzling passenger vehicles, excluding trucks.

A charge of $1,000 will be levied on Canadians who purchase new vehicles with fuel-efficiency ratings of between 13 and 14 litres per 100 kilometres. The levy will increase by $1,000 for each full litre above the 13-litre benchmark, to a maximum of $4,000.

"It is expected that this measure will increase federal revenues by $110 million in 2007-08 and $105 million in 2008-09," the budget reads.

AND CHECK THIS OUT

Following are a list of the rebates for various vehicles (fuel efficiency rating in brackets):
  • Toyota Prius: $2,000 (4.1)
  • Honda Civic Hybrid: $2,000 (4.5)
  • Toyota Corolla: $1,000 (6.3)
  • Mini Cooper M6: $1,000 (6.5)
  • Ford Escape HEV 4x4: $2,000 (7.4)
  • Saturn Vue Hybrid: $1,000 (7.9)
  • Chevrolet Impala: $1,000 (12.3)

Re: Great Going Canada....pathetic

The irony is that the plant in Canada making materials for the Prius battery has destroyed the surrounding environment, from the article: Toyota gets the metal from a Canadian company whose smelting facility at Sudbury has spewed sulphur dioxide into the air for more than a century.

The car giant buys about 1,000 tons a year from the plant, which is owned by Inco, one of the world's largest nickel-mining companies.

Fumes emerging from the factory are so poisonous that they have destroyed vegetation in the surrounding countryside, turning the once-beautiful landscape into the bare, rocky terrain astronauts might expect to find in outer space.

This makes no sense, if you were a Millionaire in Canada you'd be taxed out of your ass......but if you are on welfare you'd be in heaven....

Well if Hillary gets elected it will be the same thing here. The democrats love to punish the wealthy and reward the lazy!

I think what he's saying is that some people who are rich enough don't care if the government takes 30% or 45% of their income--e.g., Ted Kennedy or John Kerry. Though I would say you would have to be a multi-multi-millioinaire for that to apply. Obviously, some wealthy people would still hate the taxes, but some (usually among those who inherited rather than made their fortunes) apparently don't. Maybe the latter feel guilty about having so much money without making it themsleves.

You want to talk about a screwed up government -

I don't not have any children, yet I pay $ 5000 a year just in school taxes.
Texas passed a law that was going to lower the property tax on our homes. But, I wasn't included in that. Now to get back the money they lost on their mystery property tax cut, they raised cigarette taxes. Guess what, my wife and I both smoke!

Nice list of crap cars that won't go two feet out of the drive way when winter hits and snow is a half foot deep...not to mention how pathetic they are for highwway travel...stuck in the slow lane forever(Canadians will know who these people are, yeah they are the retards who tie up traffic on the highway doing less than 100km/hr and when the passing lane starts move into the right lane to pass-:twak:). This "Think Green" is getting beyond stupid...I believe in conservation but enough is enough already. Remember when the retarded government imposed the luxury tax on vehicles that were considered high priced ticket items? Now they introduce this levy, talk about double taxation. I take all my recycling to the depot and dispose of it there for free, but now the Calgary City council wants everyone to recycle and is trying to pass a $21.00/mth property tax hike so that if you recycle or not, your still paying for the service...sounds like socialist politics to me. All the while I can't help but think that there is a group of some DARWIN ECO Theorist's (Also known as career students - have not worked a day in their lives making an honest wage or running their own business, but have been relying on Government and Private grants/funding to sit around smoke Hash and come up with brain dead ideas on how to screw up the global economy) sitting out there laughing their ass's off knowing how much damage they are doing to the economies of the world.

Their whole "share the wealth" crap is going to destroy the country, I mean think about it... I went to school, paid attention, worked hard, got very good grades, worked 2 part time jobs to pay for college as I went, I earned 18 engineering certifications is networking, operating systems, security, etc... so that I could better myself, make more money and hey... buy an H2.

Then you've got good old drop-out Joe - decided he didn't feel like going to school, who cares about college - he'll just live off of welfare, after all - its free.

So the Dem's will come along and say hey - you're the one who busted your ass, made something of yourself, give us even more of your money so we can give it to the lazy worthless sh*ts who don't give a damn about themselves or anyone else.

Overall - look at the math:

Say you make $200K, you're paying nearly $70K in taxes...

Joe Average makes $40K, pays like $11K in taxes...

So now the government wants more - but hey, wait a f%king second, you just paid 7 times as much as Joe Average, yet think about it -- your gonna be driving down the same highways, using the same public parks, same services and such, so your one person, he's one person, yet your paying the taxes of 7 average persons, and the government wants MORE!?!?!?

W T F !!!!!!!!!!

So - what will happen if this does go through (their share the wealth crap) people will have ZERO motivation to actually make something of themselves, everyone should just stay home, sit on their couch, watch Jerry Springer and wait for their welfare checks to come in, after all they'll be even bigger then before.

what sucks is that I have a deposit on my new one on order, but because it has not been delivered yet or the paperwork 100% finalized... I am stuck paying the extra 4k. Dealers have to charge it if they do not have the VIN for the paperwork (prior to the announcement) and if it is not in there current stock. Well.. here ya go canada.. take more of MY money.

I only see 1-2 H2s, 5-6 H3s a week-2weeks.

I guess that number will be going down in the months to come.

I cannot stand our current government in Canada. At this point, I do not even know if I am Liberal, Conservative, etc. but what I do know is that their actions are speaking louder than words.

It was proposed last month that couples be able to file for taxes together in order to allow us to claim more of our taxes back. Currently, we can "file together" but must submit our applications separately. This results in some tax benefits, but not as many as if we could treat our incomes as one, our expenses as one, etc. The government turned it down, claiming it would cost them over $5 billion per year in lost revenue. Excuse me? Those are MY tax dollars, not the government's, thank you very much.

Christ, it's like a circus in parliment!
