32 K Mile Maintenance Confusion

I got a letter from my dealer, they want me to come in for my 32,000 mile maintenance. Cost, about $1,000. There is no mention of this maintenance in the manual; indeed my next major service is 50,000 miles. This is a 2005 H2.
Question: What?s done with the 32,000 mile dealer maintenance? Do I need it? And, is it okay to get it done at my local auto maintenance shop versus the $1,000 to the dealer? What work is just a good idea to do now?
I want to keep my H2 in tiptop shape, but I don?t want to get ripped off.

Stick to the manual...dealer's trying to line their pockets.
