Gas Type?
Just curious as to what type of fuel you guys are running in your Hummers? By type, I am referring to 87,89, or 93 octane. I know alot of people swear that 93 is the only thing to run in such a lux vehicle, while others see no problem with 87 and an occassional dose octane injector cleaner. Just wondering the census on here. Thanks....Jamie

I run 87 octane, I havent notiuced much of a difference with 93 or 94. Sometimes I run fuel injector cleaner, maybe every 6 months.

Thats very nice to hear. My car is slated to only run 93 and above octane (needless to say I don't drive it much), however I was unsure what was normal to run in the Hummer. I have been running 89 since I bought it and adding a bottle of cleaner once a month (actually 2 bottles since 1 bottle treats 21 gallons) With the price of gas on the rise, I may down-grade to 87. Thanks for the responses...Jamie

I would only use name brand stations, no discount gas. I use 87 oct and have done a test of 93 oct. I actually got less mpg. In my 04 H2 I get 12.1 around town. Never taken it out of town. Off roading is close to me in Arizona. Miles on my truck is 13.5k. My truck is in link.

Believe it says in the owners manual that it set up for 87 octane.

Here in Italy gasoline have 95 (min) octane until 105.
I use GPL or LPG Liquid Petroleum Gas and have 114 octane. No problem .... |

87 in an H3. I have consustantly heard for years, that higher octane only helps an engine with pinging. So if you don't have that problem with lower octane, there's no benefit from using higher priced, higher octane fuel.

I've used only 87 for 65000 miles in my 2003 model, no problems. A friend has an Escalade with the same 6.0 Vortec and it clatters on 89. The H2 was tuned for 87 and that is what my 2003 manual recommends (as I recall).

You only need 87 octane. Higher octane fuel is for use when combustion chamber pressures are higher like when you add A supercharger. Octane is not A performance additive, rather it raises the fuels resistance to burn to prevent preignition in higher compression motors. If you use low octane fuel in A higher compression motor the fuel will ignite prior to the sparkplug firing causing pre-ignition/detonation from the pressure in the cylinder. No advantage to using A high octane fuel in A low compression motor.

i am also running 87 on my 2006 H2 SUV with 3500 miles on it...i used shell or costco gas whichever is cheaper...btw here in Kauai, Hawaii...regular unleaded is now $3.47....
