Gritty Paint???

1 Attachment(s)
Just washed the H3 and ran my hand over the hood area afterwards. The finish felt gritty as if it had sand on it. I'm wondering if anyone knows what this is and what causes it? Cold it be acid rain causing it?? I quickly put the clay bar to use and had the finish feeling baby smooth in no time. After clay baring I put a coat of fresh wax on it. Would be nice to have a garage to park her in but I'm not that fortunate right now. At any rate I am curious if any of you guys have experienced this and what you have done different. When I purchased the H3 the stealership wanted to sell me a paint coating that supposedly prevented build-up and acid rain damage. Any truth to that stuff??

Thanks,

Chris :D

I just thought that gritty feeling meant it was time for a some good wax. I think the elements and road debris take their toll, and a little wax on, wax off makes it all better. :D

I did try waxing it first before clay baring, but even using the 3 step system that Mcguires has, the gritty feeling did not come off. I resorted to using the clay bar and it worked like magic!!!!

I bought into that paint coating/shield once. What a waste of money. Still had to wax it just as often to keep it feeling smooth. And now that I think about it - that car started rusting sooner than any other car I've owned. :o

Good looking truck by the way. Great color!

Thanks, the pic was from her first outing at Coal Creek Rec area in TN, something like 70,000 acres to play around on, a guy could get lost easily and not be seen for days in that place. At any rate the wife and I put a little mud on her that day and tested out her off road abilities. Even did some water fording... What a great truck!!!!

Yep - owning a Hummer is a blast. On and off road.

I've been too chicken to take it through any serious water though. I know it could handle it though!

HUMMER - like nothing else!!! :clapping:

If it is that noticeable, take it back to yor dealer and ask them what they think.

I'll mention it to them tomorrow, going in to get my roof rails replaced and a few other items addressed. I did not clay bar the whole thing so it should still have some gritty areas to show the dealer.

Got another question: Anyone notice if your windows on your doors are scratched at the bottom on the outside??? I have noticed mine are scratched like from the tooling that installed the panels or something....?? Only on the lower section of the glass....

Can't say I've heard anyone here mention that. Throw it at the service manager at the dealership. See what they say. See if they can locate what caused it. Does it seem like it's getting worse as time goes by - like something is STILL scratching it??

Re: Gritty Paint???

No, does not seem to be getting worse just looks like someone stuck some type of tool down between the glass and the rubber wiper seal, like a slim jim or something would maybe make if someone was trying to open the door from the outside.
