Factory Light Bar Opinion
I am trying to decide if I should get this. The dealer gave me a price of 585 installed. I looked at the step by step of installing it myself, but really don't want to do it myself. Anyone have opinions on this, and some pics of some of you that have it done.

Are you talking about the two rectangular off-road lights that mount just above the windshield?
![]() Or the Orange marker lights that go in the same place? ![]() Both had initial problems with wind noise and fitment issues, but I believe both have been resolved. I haven't installed either of these, but I think both require some drilling. |

The first ones

Can anyone confirm the wind noise issues have been resolved? Also, how was the problem resolved? New design or more Duct Tape?

dont know about the price, dealer prices are usually inflated, but maybe this is ok. maybe try getting the lights somewhere else for cheaper and just have them, or another place install them for you. look around at some prices online. |

The issue has been resolved. With the early version, they used 3M tape and at speed the front would lift up a little and make noise. They are now drilled into the roof so they will not go anywhere. I have not seen them but from what I have heard they light the road or trail like no other. |
Re: Factory Light Bar Opinion
i don't have them either, but the typical issue with most roof mounted off road lights as opposed to brush guard mounted ones is that the roof mounted ones tend to make reflection and glare off the hood. not sure if the factory ones have this problem, but it is probably worth going down to the dealer after dark and checking one out that has the light bar to see for yourself if you like it or not.

Re: Factory Light Bar Opinion
:jump: The lights are super bright for their size. The install can be a little tedious. The paper pattern is hard to get perfectly aligned in between the pillars and you have to learn how to install a riv-nut, but I would do it again.

I found this site when I was considering a set of the lights. This guy has taken pictures and describes the installation of many goodies including the lights. Just scroll down through the web page and you will find the light bar installation shots. http://www.rausite.com/hummerh3.htm
Personally, I decided to go with a rack and lights mounted to it. Rack is on just need to get some lights on it. |

I had them on the 06 and in one word SUCK. I used them some since work til 2am and use them on the drive home (deserted 2 lane back roads). They do a fine job of lighting the windshield, and if it's dirty the glare is real bad. As for wind noise it's still there, on the interstate it's bad and a headwind is bad too. When we got the 07, the first thing the wife asked was if it had those *amn lights? I'd go w/ a rack and mount the lights back more. |
Re: Factory Light Bar Opinion
They are better than nothing, but I wouldn't buy again b/c I agree they are overpriced and the glare is terrible. Wind noise hasn't really been an issue for me.

Re: Factory Light Bar Opinion
true better than nothing but if you really want to use them I suggest going with an aftermarket bar and some real lights. The glare off the hood is a huge factor in your distance vision with these lights. But if you really really really want them I'll sell you my set.:giggling:

Re: Factory Light Bar Opinion
I have the orange marker lamps. The mounting base is similar to the off road lights, and yes they both had major wind noise issues when they first came out. The rattling and shaking produced a loud continuous fart sound inside the vehicle, that was annoying as hell.
Hummer put out an order to dealers to stop installing them and took several months to come up with a solution. They did come out with a fix that comes with all the new units. The fix has worked for my vehicle perfectly. That noise had me prepared to rip them off the roof and throw them away, but thankfully it is now a non issue. I would base your decision on the performance of the lights themselves, and not on the wind noise issue. I believe they are fine now. |
