Ex Mil HMMWV... should I?

Hi, just jumped over from the H3 Forum... need to ask your expertise guys:confused:

I may be able to get my hands on an ex Mil HMMWV (not US MIL) for around $10000 give or take... :clapping:

What do I look for - any nasty surprises I should know about?

Thanks in advance for your help!!!

Cheers

Other than very bad creature comforts, its the same beast on the path less traveled. :D

Interesting.. once those things hit DRMO (http://www.drms.dla.mil/html/drmo_sites.html) they chop the frames and sale the parts. I'd be surprised even though you found one, that you can get it registered in any state b/c there will not be a VIN, if you're even in the states... uhumm "Fantasy Island / The Tiny Kingdom".

He’s right about creature comforts, no a/c, should have heat though, the seats are extremely uncomfortable for road trips and the engine by default is governed at 60-65mph.

Offloading will be great, no worries there.

Thanks guys - just to explain, I live in Bahrain and can get one from "across the causeway"... I run an H3, but have been looking for a car to be used for off road trips only (so the comfort thing isn't much of an issue ;)

I'm assuming as they were ordered for military in the Middle east they will have A/C fitted, if they don't it'll be a no-no... please note these are not US Mil vehicles, however I'm assuming pretty much the same spec!!

Okay, so new to this vehicle, what's CTIS and is having 24V as opposed to 12v an issue???

Appreciate your feedback on this guys :beerchug:
