Installed K&N H3 filter
Filter looks much thinner, came oiled ready to install.
Installed in 2 minutes. I can feel it has 3.453 more horse power. :giggling: No in reallity I don't feel any difference.:crying: Maybe it's me. Women often tell me I'm not sensitive.:lame: Conclussion...not worth buying. I'll save it for the alpha.:dancingbanana: |
Re: Installed K&N H3 filter
Yep.
It has been stated, some would say proven, that the filter alone won't do any good. At the very least you need to get a new tube to go along with a better filter, as the stock tubing is said to be too restrictive. Although some have noticed significant improvements using the Airaid system which replaces only the filter and the box, go figure. |
Re: Installed K&N H3 filter
I5 already comes with COLD AIR INTAKE...

I had the K&N filter for 2 years(installed at 4,500 miles),only noticable difference is I will never have to buy another filter for the life of the H3.
I will clean and re oil it every 25k to 30k (K&N says 50k) Make sure you dont over oil and let it sit and wipe it down when servicing. At 30 K on H3 I put a clean white rag with some alcohol on it into the tube when servicing it came out clean ,no oil or dirt residue.:D I did notice My 442 did breath noticably better with the K&N, but that has no restriction Home made Duel Ram air and a Double Pumper Holly 750 ![]() Since pic I installed a edlebrock alum manifold and a high output chrome(Bling) alternator. |
Re: Installed K&N H3 filter
Well for 50 bucks it was worth trying it out. Yes you don't have to buy another filter ever again. I think the dirt theory is not well supported (yes I saw the article so no need to post it :violin: )
Didn't want to replace the stock box as it is nicely inclosed (unlike most after market system). Next I'll check the tubing and if the truck gets enough air out of the fender hole. Yes it's time to concentrate on the cheap mods for a change.;) |

It also comes with an exhaust, does that mean there is no room for improvement? |
Re: Installed K&N H3 filter
Here's the low-down on CAI kits, IMHO....
-don't do hardly squat unless you replace the tube and MAF that is recalibrated to match new tube. I have not seen an aftermarket MAF for the H3 yet, but have not looked either. -Don't trade your nice hummer factory Cold air intake for one that allows partial hot air in from engine compartment and is not 100% sealed like the factory one is. From what I have seen out there, if I were to upgrade my wife's on her H3 (I got the H2) I would get the GM intake as theirs is probably really closey matched to the OEM MAF (However I would not expect much gains to be had from it as it does not include MAF). Only other option for me would be the Volant (not sure if it has MAF or not, but have 100% confidence in their CAI kits more so than any other). Volant is 100% sealed, allowing cold air in only. |
Re: Installed K&N H3 filter
I have the Volant in my 07. Really no different than stock. It is just the box, tube, and filter. I have used "oiled" filters on my other rigs - long term. I have never had any problems directly related to the "oiled" filter letting in more dirt, or oil getting sucked into the engine or on the sensor... I have read all the articles. If I had to do it again, I would probably go with the GM chrome box cover, tube, and filter. Oh well. The Volant box is completely sealed like the stocker. The Volant stuff seams to be of good quality.

Re: Installed K&N H3 filter
I'm going to go with true flow. It keeps the stock box, but replaces the tube and filter.
A buddy of mine who is heavily into performance told me to go with Volant, but it just costs too much for me, so does the GM performance intake. |
Re: Installed K&N H3 filter
Drill a little hole in the box in the middle of the filter, insert tube, lead tube to NO2 bottle, squeeze...

Re: Installed K&N H3 filter
Now someone is thinking about this the right way:dancingbanana:
