WTF Is That Noise...The Motor's Off And I'm Not Moving?? My 3 is Haunted...
 

This is the secod time I've heard this on my 2007 H3. Once before while I had the hood up installing a new Horn set up ..and 2 days ago while the hood was up installing a connection to the battery for an external charger.

The motor is off and the key is not in the ignition.

It's this clicking sound that appears to be coming from near the Master Cyl on the firewall. It doesn't start right away but a few min later. I hear this click about every 2-3 seconds. Of course after I shut the hood I can't hear it any longer.

Someone had something similar on an 06. I remember reading about their problem here, but I forgot what they found.

My '06 doesn't do it, but the '08 loaner I'm using does. It stops after about maybe 15 minutes. I think it's the heat shield, too. Had you been driving just prior to hearing the clicking sound? The loaner does it after I had been driving for even a short distance ..and then I park, turn off the engine .. and the clicking begins.

This isn't that clicky sound that you hear when the exhaust manifold shields are cooling down. This is a realy sound. It is definitly a relay being turned on and of every 1-2 seconds.

It may have something to do with the power brake system on the master cylinder?

It uses an electrical boost system. I haven't really looked into how it works.

Best guess, just what desert dan said, the abs system runs self diagnostics which are quite audible(apparently) have not heard it myself. Also not sure if they will run in a key off situation. If i come across anything tomorrow i will pass it on to ya. I checked for service bulletins and pi's and found nothing. May want to check for any chassis dtc's.

It may well be some sort of diagnostics thingy. There is a module next to the MC where the sound is coming from. But it takes a while after the hood is up before ut starts clicking.

Pop your hood and wait a few min..it should start. Their are no codes shown either on the dash or on my after market "Scan Gauge" mounted on my steering column.

No big deal..just wondered WTF it's doing.... "I Robot"

Well i dont have one but next time i do have one in the shop i will def check it out and see if it happens. May be normal or may be posessed
