Clear roof lights

What do you guys think? I don't care for the larger clear tail lights, but my 05 red metallic needs a little something to spruce it up. I've got black nerf bars, black roof rack bars, all stock. I'm going to go to 08 lux wheels. Rice? Nice?

I think you should go for it. I have a set that's a bit darker. They dress it up nicely. Warning: The rear lights end up a bit pink. If you find a way to fix that please let me know. :o

I've been meaning to go get bulbs from Kragen.

I used the recon set.

Just make sure you seal them really well -- if not, you'll get water damage on the inside -- since these are based on the old light design that had water issues (ask some guys w/ 03 models especially)

Are you doing them yourself or having them installed?

The reason I ask is cause I have them too but they do not
come with any directions and was wondering if anyone had
any advice someone, if they did them.

Nothing big to it for the outside edge lights one Phillips screw and slide forward. Twist the socket for the lamp 45 degrees and out it comes. Remove the orginal bulb and install the new one. Reinstall socket and remount lens.

The four center lamps front and rear are the same: to the side is a clip that must be pushed in and they pop out. Turn the socket 45 degrees and remove old bulb and install new one. Then attach to lens and pops back in.

I think they give a nice updated appearance to it.:)

Thanks so much on the info about how to install them.
I already did them between the time you wrote your post.:iagree:

The only thing I would add would be a 6 foot ladder to reach the one on the
front and the one in the middle is really a stretch. And I'm 6'4 1/2 and I still
had to reach for it.

Re: Clear roof lights

No ladder needed here: open the sunroof for the front and for the rear get the sut and your good to go.

My 2003 has some water issues, that I only noticed after installing these.
Funny that somebody mentioned that. I had always thought it was the cab lights, but wasn't sure.

Anybody have any recommendations on how/what to use to prevent water damage?

I'm sure its the lights.

You can use a ton of silicone sealant - that's your best bet.

I installed the Smoked kit from Recon... see photos. They seem to have a pretty substantial foam seal around them and I haven't had any problems with water intrusion...yet. Recon also sells a clear kit. Bought my set on Amazon.com for $75, sign up for a credit card and get'em for $45 ($30 coupon). Good luck, btw H2R had it right, open the roof for the front, but stand on the rear tires for the rear sides and if you are 6 4 1/2 the rear lights should be a breeze.

Tournadough...you have the Recon kit too, right, but you're having water problems?? My small lights front and rear were a really tight fit...

I put the smoked set on mine, got them from g-style. I did notice that the plastic is somewhat fragile. I purchased LED's to replace the colored bulbs and upon removing them I "gently" bent the plastic stem that supports the metal clip. SO, just becarefull when pressing in with the screwdriver.

Otherwise, they look great!!
