GM could keep making parts for Hummer after possible sale
GM could keep making parts for Hummer after possible sale.
http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dl...THISWEEKSISSUE General Motors could end up making Hummer parts and subassemblies for another carmaker as part of a sell-off deal, GM product czar Bob Lutz said at the London motor show........ |
Re: GM could keep making parts for Hummer after possible sale
Its good that GM will keep making parts...
The quality will remain even if some 3rd world entity buys it. Plus jobs will stick around for US workers! That is always a good thing. |
Re: GM could keep making parts for Hummer after possible sale
You mean parts like the steering gear rack which is made by Mondo Corporation in Korea??

Re: GM could keep making parts for Hummer after possible sale
GM is not selling HUMMER.

Re: GM could keep making parts for Hummer after possible sale
Well, Rick "No Balls" Wagoner released a statement that they're still going through with selling HUMMER and that they have several parties interested in buying HUMMER.
I have one question though, when did GM announce that they're going through with the sale? All this time they have been saying they're considering all options. Like I've said many times, I wish the brains at GM would run the company, and not donkeys with too many diplomas and not enough brains. What we're witnessing is GM becoming the stale, uninspired car company that it was in the 80's and 90's. The gas craze will level out, and GM will be asking themselves why they sold an iconic brand like HUMMER, and their only offroad brand. However, lets look at the bright side... Bob the clutz and Rick off the Wagoner are 'earning' their full pay again, and really, isn't that all that matters? Like the H1 guys have been saying all along, GM can go to hell. |

It's been clear that GM is leaning towards a sale, but I'm not sure him saying there are 'interested parties' qualifies as an official statement that a sale is imminent. That being said, I'd still put my money on GM unloading the brand instead of a portfolio revamp. |
Re: GM could keep making parts for Hummer after possible sale
Well, then someone is twisting his words because it's been written as him saying they're moving as quickly as possible towards a sale.

His quote was: ?We have some interested buyers, and I can?t tell you anything beyond that right now but we are moving as fast as we can," which can be interpreted two ways. One, that they are moving towards a speedy resolution to the 'strategic review,' something they've been saying repeatedly -- or they're moving as fast as they can to a sell. As long as I'm betting they're going to sell it, I'd also bet Rick Wagoner meant the former not the latter. |

Well that is just:lame: , why can't they just cut back production? |
Re: GM could keep making parts for Hummer after possible sale
I wonder if Lynch will remain in the Hummer business because of all the H1 sales, service and maintenance they do??? Since AM General supplies all the parts for the H1 they would deal with them, however there is probably some kind of dealer franchise agreement with GM. I have an engineering school friend at GM in Detroit who thinks a sale of Hummer by GM " is imminent." I'm still hoping for AM General to step in, but I don't think they have that kind of cash.

Re: GM could keep making parts for Hummer after possible sale
Agreements can be put together however they want.......
AM General doesn't have to purchase the division outright..... There could be a percentage deal that could allow GM the credibility they seek to distance themselves from the bad Hummer PR, and allow themselves their new green initiative. At the same time they could still supply many of the parts to the brand. Obviously, I would like to see this happen also.... X4 |
Re: GM could keep making parts for Hummer after possible sale
This whole thing sucks bad as I like to buy American, and Jeep is not an option, as the Hummer brand is a far superior vehicle. There has to be a better solution than just being a lam ass and giving up on Hummer. What if gas goes back to $3 a gallon, and SUV's become popular again(small chance I know), won't Rick Wagner feel like an ass? Call me narrow minded, but if it isn't GM, then I won't buy it!:soapbox: Why can't GM develop a Hybrid model of some kind? It just pisses me off that they want to just throw in the towel on a fine brand segment.

Re: GM could keep making parts for Hummer after possible sale
Good chance the sale will happen, but, how do they separate the GM Hummer facilities that are jioned at the head of the Cadillac or some other GM high end product line. I can not see how the dealer can or should burden the loss when the problem has roots deep within the GM culture and decision making process.

What makes you think that domestic oil companies would set the price of their refined product so far below the world price that it would spur Americans into buying gas-guzzling suv's? They wouldn't maximize profits, because????????????????????????????????????? How about developing new technology here in America that is more efficient = less oil usage -) decrease in oil demand -) decrease in price of oil -) increase in the sell of automobiles -) decrease in unemployment, increase in economic growth. Of course there could be a decrease in the money sent over seas to opec and a cleaner environment to live in as well. |
