40 % wear on 37" toyos only after 8k miles, WTF?!
I installed 20 inch rims with 37x13.5 Toyo MT's. The front tires would rub a bit so they tweaked the torsion bars on the front end. They told me to come in and rotate the tires every 4k miles (which I forgot). I take it in and now the front tires have 60% tread left and the rears are decent. Clearly by tweaking the bars this effected the tread.
Has anyone else experienced this? What are the solutions? My original Hummer tires easily lasted me 45,000 miles, at this rate the MT's wont last even 20k miles. |

Never forget to rotate Toyo's :twak:
and if you tweak the Torsion Bars you should get an alignment |
Re: 40 % wear on 37" toyos only after 8k miles, WTF?!
I have been running 37" Toyo MT's for 3 years. They last about 25,000 miles. I usually chnge them with about 1/8 of the tread left, due to loss of offroad traction. the front wear faster due to the weight of the vehicle. I only rotate them twice, from the front to the back then out the door. Keeping 2 new tires on the front and 2 1/2 worn tires on the back. That way I only have to buy 2 tires per year. Great tire stays round balances well. Soft rubber wears fast.
Good luck. Jerry |

My last set of Toyo MT's lasted 48K miles and still had 3/16" worth of tread. I rotated them every 3-4K miles and maintained my air pressure. You need to do a little bit of preventative maintenance. Mark |

You should have gotten an alignment after they adjusted your TBs! Also, just changing tire height and width can affect an alignment all by itself!

Out of curiousity, how does tire height affect alignment? The geometry of the suspension doesn't know how much sidewall thickness there is. Just curious on your logic. Mark |

It's a matter of leverage out on the end of the axle. I previously argued this one myself with two different alignment shops and they both came back with this same answer. Basically, any height change, width change or offset can affect the alignment. |
Re: 40 % wear on 37" toyos only after 8k miles, WTF?!
The biggest thing a change in height effects is toe. it will seriously tweek toe. if you have the ability you can measure from the center of tread to center of tread and determine if its set right. it should be around 1/8"-3/16" toed out. if its not then by all means get an alinement.

what air pressure are you using? i have 30 psi on all and i get a near stock ride.

Re: 40 % wear on 37" toyos only after 8k miles, WTF?!
I am running about 50 psi in each tire and the ride is smooth.

Re: 40 % wear on 37" toyos only after 8k miles, WTF?!
By cranking the TBs you increased the positive camber....silly!
(This would also cause it to handle not as well too) |
Re: 40 % wear on 37" toyos only after 8k miles, WTF?!
run 40 psi in mine and rotate every 5K, I have gotten 25000 miles on them and could have gone another 5000 ,but that's just me . stock rims and no crank on the T bars.
