A question for you please...

I got some of the spray can bed liner and I was going to spray the skid plate and the back Rear Differential Cover. I asked my husband if I should just spray over the bolts or if I needed to do something special to them first?

He then said that I should ask you guys FIRST if spraying the cover will aid it in overheating? Like sealing in the heat and not letting it cool properly? If not and I can just spray it...what about the bolts please?

Thank you

Sheila

I would use a marine primer and enamel on your front skid, but I wouldn't worry about doing a thing to your rear dif cover. What is the purpose to coating it? No matter what, I wouldn't spray over the bolts. I mean you could get them off if you needed to, but there's just no reason to mess with it.

The back cover is UGLY!!! Not sure how it came factory...but it is pealing and just looks ugly!! want to make it look nicer and thought that this spray would be stronger when I do hit a rock...

Get a spray can of black Rustoleum. It's durable, won't affect taking off the bolts, prevents rust, and has fish oil in it as one of its ingredients that makes it more chip resistant than most enamels.

Take your skid plate off clean it with a scotch bright pad really well. Use a sanding block over it again after it dries. Then spray it with the bedliner. Then bolt it back on the truck.

Use undbody coating on the rear diff. It will stick better than any paint as it is a major job to prep a rear axle correctly without taking it off the truck. Underbody coating sticks to unprepped surfaces pretty well and is very easy to touch up.

When it comes to undercoating dont buy some cheap crap from the parts store.... find a paint/bodyshop supply place and buy a good quality undercoat. Power wash the underbody well and then before applying let the can sit in a bucket of hot water, this will make it spray less clumpy and give a more even coat.
