Hail damage
1 Attachment(s)
Well, here's the result of getting caught in golf ball size hail last night. One minute, nice evening on a bar patio enjoying my cigar. A few minutes later, 40 to 50mph winds and golf ball size hail. Wind blowing South East, truck parked pointing West. Haven't gotten it washed and under fluorescent light yet, but it appears no glass or body damage. Just the tonneau cover... Strange. Can the tonneau cover be taken care of with PDR or does it need to be replaced?

Re: Hail damage
Just take the truck in to have it sprayed with Line-X and you will never see it the dents. The will fill right in. I had mine done for same reason - plus it will never dent again. You cant have it repaired otherwise so you only other choice is a new one.

Pics? How does the texture compare?

I would still love to see pics of a tonneau cover with line-x if anyone wants to share.

I still have mine from before I put on the Slantback. I'd be willing to sell it for $500 if the buyer is willing to pay shipping.......... :D |

No pictures were forthcoming, so I decided to just go ahead and give it a shot. End result? I should have done this the first day I got the truck! Looks way better now. All dents filled in and it has a much nicer look than OEM IMO. Anyway, in post 1 you can see the before picture. Here is the after picture, showing a hail damaged tonneau post Line-X application. I LOVE IT! I'd also like to throw out a big "THANK YOU!" to tomp for suggesting it! :beerchug: |
Re: Hail damage
That TomP sure is a swell guy. :fdance:

Re: Hail damage
Wow! looks great. What did they charge you to do the work?

$200 |
Re: Hail damage
that seems a bit expensive for what it is. But whats the alternative? I guess well worth the $200! Looks great!

Re: Hail damage
Yeah, it's a bit high, but what the heck. No hassle on my part and it's done for a lot less than a grand for an OEM top. I'd do it again in a heart beat.

Re: Hail damage
Where do you go to get sprayed with Line-X? a dealer, a body shop, Zbart?????
|
Re: Hail damage
You need to take it to a Line-X shop! Just Google Line-X in your area. I've seen the treatment on a few H1s but never on an H2 until now. It looks good.

Re: Hail damage
I wish I had seen this thread before you did that. If you have comprehensive coverage on your insurance, you could have covered it that way.
The insurance company would have paid you 1200 to replace it and you could have still had the lining put on. Comprehensive covers stuff like that and there is no penalty for making a claim (because comprehensive includes acts of god, vandalism, etc,...stuff you can't control) Most people have 100 deductible on comprehensive and there is no rate in crease. But at least you got it fixed. It looks fantastic. I don't have hail damage but may do that myself it looks so good. Just out of curiousity, if you received that much damage to the cover, what about the roof of the truck, did you check it? You may want to.... Mark PS. Tomp was right, no PDR would have straightened that mess. Great suggestion. |
