smoked cab and marker lights
ok so i bought some night shade smoking paint and want to smoke my cab and marker lights, but i have a few questions. Do i have to sand the lights before applying the paint? Will the lights look purple once its done? and how in the world do you get the center cab lights off(3 small ones in between the corner ones)?
Thanks... |

I cannot say what they will look like since I bought the Recon dark smoked ones and installed them. The middle light covers twist off. BTW if you mess up the original lights I do have a set of OEM ones for sale. LOL ~Richard |

Re: smoked cab and marker lights

Re: smoked cab and marker lights
Hey Matt, i did both my Hummers, you should sand them for sure with a 800 grain "wet" sand paper, trust me, it makes a difference, let me know if you need any help, i'm out this weekend but I'm back on Monday.

Re: smoked cab and marker lights
Where did you guys get the night shade smoke paint? Thanks

Re: smoked cab and marker lights
Andres, I just finished putting them on my rig. I sanded them and they turned out pretty good for my first attempt. it's definitely a must for black hummers. i noticed you had your side markers done. How'd you get the back one off?
TOI-MAT - you can get it at most local Auto shops. I would try O'reillys first and then advanced auto parts. Its called VHT Nightshade and the can is purple and black. |
Re: smoked cab and marker lights
Thanks after a little research I found it at Advanced Auto. Also found this tutorial on-line. Do you have any pictures of them finished?

Re: smoked cab and marker lights
any pics of the process? and finshed close up's?
I'm considering a light smoked setup. I would like to go that route casue every other set I have seen has a chrome trim ring around them. |
Re: smoked cab and marker lights
I will try to get some picks up soon..
It worked pretty good but i did have some paint run when using the clearcoat. I had to spray it on really thick or else it looked splotchy and when i sprayed it on thick it ran. so i was kinda in a lose lose situation but oh well it turned out pretty good. I did 3 coats of vht and 3 of clearcoat and it turned out pretty dark. timgco- if you want them lightly smoked i would say do 1 or 2 lights coats of the vht nightshades. I can write up exactly what i did if yall would like |
Re: smoked cab and marker lights
I followed the instruction from my precious post (basic not professional). I figured once I purchased all the material for professional I could just buy them online already completed. I have to agree with Big Z the clear coat actually took away from the process. I decided not to clear coat after doing one. Here are some pics.

Re: smoked cab and marker lights
ya that professional one is not really necessary. i would still sand them though. if you try the clearcoat be careful. plus if you dont do it you can always go back and do it later if you want.
Toi-mat - glad everything worked out for you :beerchug: |

Sorry about the quality, the size limits on the pictures is ridiculous. I will try to take some pictures at night tomorrow. These are dark tinted but I can see the lights no problem.

Re: smoked cab and marker lights
Thanks Big Z! I didn't even know this was an option before I read this tread. Saved me lots of cash :) No I just need to get a few more mods done and it will be almost all black and blue
