Is it just a chrome cover???

How do I remove this over the license plate chrome cover...thingy????

I tried playing around with the 3 bottom screws and nothing really happened.

I want to get rid of the chrome part if its just a cover... if its a whole one piece.. Anyone wanna trade for a blk one???:jump:

I've already got my interor panel off of my rear door. I take a peak tonight and see if there's some clips or something in there that you need to pop off.

I'm betting that its a cover, but that the plastic under is it slotted for the clips to slide through (kinda like the older-style side mirrors when you pop the caps off of them)...so you'd probably end up with a better look if you popped it off, hit it with 'the old rattle can' (as splne1 mentioned), and then popped it back on.

I'd actually give it a good spray of Duplicolor bedliner...thanks for the idea.

It looks like there's three bolts and a couple of clips that secure the whole license plate/handle section to the door. Maybe the whole deal needs to come off to reveal how to get the chrome bit off.

If someone has access to the GM EPC maybe they could post the exploded diagram of this part. Unfortunately my copy doesn't run on Windows 7 and I don't have an XP machine to install it on.

Let me know if you figure this out...I may try to pull mine off this weekend if it doesn't rain.

Unfortunately I didn't get the opportunity to pop this off before re-installing my door panel. Line-X was a day late getting the spray job done and I had to slap in on and head out for a trip.

Also, unfortunately, the EPC diagram doesn't show much:

There are two different part numbers which apply to the whole 'pocket' (one for chrome and one for black). The cover is not shown as a seperate part number. I'd still bet there's 2 or 3 clips and some 3M double-stick tape holding it on. If you remove part #24 (see the diagram) can you see any clips up in there? Maybe the pocket doesn't need to come out to get the chrome bit off.

If not it's probably easier to just tape it off and spray it...unless you're really bored...and really anal...(like me).

Yep...just a chrome cover. Six pieces of double-stick tape and some caulk is all that holds it on.

The black plastic underneath is textured just like the rest.

Get your favorite putty knife and start prying in the middle...that's where the biggest lump of caulk is...then work it toward each end. The caulk is a pain in the ass to get off.
