Tire carrier tab.

On the hinge (passenger) side of the tire carrier up by the tire mount, there is a small tab welded on. Anyone know what it's for???

I have wondered too. Mine has a rubber loom thingy on it. It kind of looks like it is for a wire to run through maybe, but there is nothing there.

Guys, the rubber is so if the tire carrier gets shut onto the tailgate when it's down that it doesn't scratch the tailgate.
