horns?
Has anyone done a aftermarket swap for the oem horns?
I am looking for something louder and mean that will wire into the stock stock electrical for the oem horns. I dont use my horns enough to justify a 500 dollar air horn setup and all I really want to do is get rid of that stock weak "meep meep" sound any ideas? (given I was also wondering if there was a way to setup an air horn using the oem air compressor for the suspension. i mean i hit the horn maybe once every 6 months if that, so just running some idea around) Also, I was wondering if there was a good electrical horn setup that would work for emergencies? Basically I do volunteer work as an EMR for the local fire department and though the flashers I have wired into the truck do get some people out of the way, it doesnt get them all and I thought maybe if I was able to wire in a new horn setup that maybe there was also a way that horn can double as a siren type setup. Any and all ideas welcomed |
Re: horns?
Keep looking on EBay for '58, '59, or '60 12v Cadillac horns. They're compact in size and sound marvelous. They normally go for around $220 for a pair of excellent condition or NOS ones to $99 for a scratched or rusted working pair.

Re: horns?
Not sure if you were trying to avoid a whole new setup completely but knowing the background of you doing EMR check out Carson's stutter horns.
http://www.thepublicsafetystore.com/...-air-horn.html Might be something you are interested in as a horn replacement. I know GURU on here ran it and was very happy with it. I have no personal experience with them. |

I would never have replaced it but I recently installed a Carson SA-385 Alert Siren/PA and it had a very similar sounding horn built in. Since having both units connected to the same speaker was causing me some issues, I just yanked the HPK-150 and left the SA-385. It works just as well...and I can shout at people now!!:clapping: |
Re: horns?
Try to find a horn (or horns) off a Chevy S10 from around 2003.
The one on my S10 really blows away the Hummer's little sounding horn and they should be cheap too. ~Richard |
Re: horns?
I bought one of those Wolvo Bad Boy Air Horns but haven't had a chance to hook it up yet. It was only $35 if I remember correctly. Anything has to be better then the stock wimpy ones.
