Oil Pressure Gauge Pegged to 80
I'm getting really sick of all these issues.
Now my oil light is pegged to 80, even at idle. Anyone know what this could be? |
Re: Oil Pressure Gauge Pegged to 80
When you turn engine off does the oil gauge go back to 0 like all the other gauges? If not its probably a bad stepper motor. If it does go back to 0 then it could be the sending unit. My speedo gauge and oil pressure gauge stepper motors are bad. I need to get mine fixed :-(

Re: Oil Pressure Gauge Pegged to 80
Yes, when I turn the motor offer it goes to zero. When I turn the key but don't start the motor it shoots to 80. Start the motor and it zeros out and then shoots right back to 80.
From what you're saying it sounds like sending unit. Yes? |
Re: Oil Pressure Gauge Pegged to 80
Where is that oil sending unit?

Re: Oil Pressure Gauge Pegged to 80
Oil sending unit at back right side of engine ,just behind the intake manifold

Re: Oil Pressure Gauge Pegged to 80
Its definitely the Oil Pressure Sensor. Had the same issue a few months ago on my 06 H2. Took about 30 minutes.
Its located on the top side if the back of the engine, between the firewall and the back of the intake manifold. Get a flashlight and you'll see it. Use a 3/8" Drive 1-1/16" Deep well socket and a 6" extension. You have to move a few things out of the way to get to it but its definitely doable. Here is a post with a picture of its location: http://www.elcovaforums.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=41626 |
Re: Oil Pressure Gauge Pegged to 80
Thanks so much for this post. I was just up there today trying to do a quick locate. Figured it was on the back side out reach at the time I was messing with it. I was going to double check the connection real quick.
Was your sensor actually bad or?? |
Re: Oil Pressure Gauge Pegged to 80
Yes it was definitely bad. Just to be sure, I removed and re-installed the connector before I swapped it out and sure enough, it was still pegged at 80. The connector was a bit of a bear to pop off because of the tight location. Just go to your local AP store and pick up a new sensor.
