Phil told me he would break my arm if I didn't put some underbody lighting on my truck. Beastmaster said he would beat me up if I didn't install LED lighting. So, I did.
I got some LED fog lights off of Ebay. The housing was plastic chrome so I scuffed it up with some sandpaper and then painted them flat black so they wouldn't look like ghetto redneck engineering and just redneck engineering. I put one in front of the rear wheel and one in the back of the front wheel on both sides. Mounted on the side of the frame up a few inches from the bottom of the frame. I'll see how long they last. So what problem are you solving here other than avoiding getting injured by far off forum members? Do you regularly miss the steps in the dark?
|
Actually, to answer your questions, the lights serve 2 purposes. One is that they act as puddle lamps at night and secondly and the main reason I added them is that when wheeling at night, you obviously have no light to the sides of your vehicle. With two of these on each side, it illuminates out to the side of the truck while wheeling very well.

Night wheeling will be nice with those lights.

Very slick. I can't wait to see them at night.
|
Yeah, they are cheapies. I figure since they are LEDs they can take more of a beating and I can duct tape the case back together or glue as long as I still have some LEDs still burning.
Also my theory is, since they are only for night wheeling they are only allowed to be beaten up on at night, so that greatly diminishes the chances of them getting ripped off the frame. ![]() |
are they water/ mud proof?

Sure. Blame me for doing LED's. Your alternator will thank you!
![]() The installation looks good. BTW, how much wire was attached to the lights? |
They come with maybe 10ft or so of lead wire. I ran the backs to the fronts and linked the POS from each to about a 16 or 14ga wire coming from the relay. Done same way on both sides. Grounds to the frame.
On a side note, my damn security light doesn't work (different thread) |

We put mine to use but some heretofor unnamed person suggested that I add two more up front also, damnit. We referred to it as my ghetto bling lights. The mountain homeys really liked it. I think there are some other pictures but this is the only one I saw and it kind of shows the effect (it's the last one BTW).

BTW, it is a pretty trick idea...works quite nicely when hung up on boulder(s) at night.

Very nice good idea man. Looks good. |
I'm starting to get so many relays on my truck, anytime I walk near it, it sounds like an argument between two Hottentot tribesmen.
