Changed the oil Sunday... I was standing in the aisle at Wally World and had the correct filter in my hand. I kept going back to the Fram book to make sure it was the right one... look at the page, look at the filter, think this can't be right because the filter is about half the size of a Coca-Cola can. Turns out it was the right one. I was expecting a big honkin filter that would do the H2 justice, not some dainty little filter that wouldn't hold more than half a beer

I am thinking about doing it myself - again -- Did you use synthetic? Which brand? are you using Fram filters or is there another recommended brand? One more - Did you wait for GM to tell you to change it or did you change it at a specific milage?
thanks |
My oil changes are free until 36,000 miles. This is one freebee that dealers will throw in if you pressure them. Especially when you are buying on the last day of the month and quarter!
(By the way I asked for free oil changes for life) Had to take what I could get! |
Mike,
A lot of people use Mobil 1... so thats what I went with - a change from Valvoline synthetic. I usually change it before the computer says to and also when I expect to use the vehicle under load for extended periods. I changed it this time because we're on vacation pulling a 4000lb boat from Georgia to multiple locations in Texas. A few people on the forums like K&N filters. |
I wouldn't put a Fram filter on my wheelbarrow(if it took one).
Lots of HD truck guys are having problems w/ the insides letting go. Use AC or Wix or Baldwin. Here's a link to cut apart filters http://community.webshots.com/album/61178762NfrhyW |
Looks like the AC Delco is the way to go for oil filters. Does anyone else recommend something else?

Yeah...stay away from Fram...many documented failures on cars and motorcycles (where I first heard about their substandard quality).
It's entirely likely none of us would ever experience a failure...but when you think about it, why would you ever take a chance? |
Thanks for the good advice -- I will use Mobile 1 and a K&N filter. This is the first time I will use synthetic.

Mobil 1 also sells oil filters, which were rated good on the original oil filter site.
AutoZone sells them. |
Klaus & Bevo --
Thanks for the advice -- my daughter likes going to Autozone ... Mobil 1 ... |
The part number for the Mobil 1 Oil Filter for the H2 is M1-107.
|
Klaus -- thanks -- it looks like you provide a lot of great answers on this forum ... Mike
