hey all,

I'm wanting to tint the front passenger, driver and windshield as much as I can get away with. I'm in Texas. Do you guys know the legal limits?

Where do I take it to get it done and how much do you think it will cost?

Thanks,

They are pretty different from state to state.

look here:

As VT mentioned, it veries from state to state. Don't know if it still is but used to be illegal to tint the front driver and passenger windows in MO without a note from a doctor stating medical reasons for doing so. I don't think in any state you can tint the windshield below the brow marks in the windshield itself.

casey, I had mine done in Dallas. When I called textint and ordered the tint they had it all precut and installed it in an hour.
http://www.textint.com/homepage.htm And yes there is a max to the tint I belive it is 36%

I know that I have always gotten mine done past the legal limit. Mine are currently done to match the back window and is darker than legal. I think most tint shops will do it for you it just has to be cash deal with now warranty or record they did it.

casey,,,, the darker you go ,, the more you'll have your window open at nite to see out rear view mirror ..can be a pain in the ass at times....just something to think about......soft...

Everytime I get pulled over for mine they tell me that 70% is legal in every state which has no tint to it at all.

LoLo 09-26-2005 08:19 PM

I believe they put 30% on my front windows... It looks good, but the color is slightly off from the factory tint. (Mine looks more gray than the rear windows... they have a "brownish" tint to them)

CslRkH2 09-26-2005 10:44 PM

It says on the back window (etched) that its tinted 18% +/- 2%. Most of the shops around here tint the front to 20% so its slightly lighter than the front. If they go 15% (which I guess is the next interval) then the front is darker than the back.

CaseyWhitcher 09-27-2005 12:04 AM

considering my back windows are all pink, I'm not too concerned about matching, I'm just trying to go as dark as I can.

H2JP 09-27-2005 12:12 AM

I have two sheets of 5% all the way around my H2 and then a strip of 5% that comes nearly half way down the front windshield. It's very dark but it can be frustrating at night. And here in KY I don't think they care too much about window tint because I've been pulled over several times and them not say a thing about it.

Limo is the only way to go IMO.

I have 20% on the two fronts and 5% on the rest of the windows in my H2 in PA. The shop said 30% is legal, but a cash deal of $150 and the shop did the whole truck.
A State Trooper buddy told me if you do get pulled over the best thing to do is put all the windows down and turn on the dome light and put your hands on top of the wheel. He said it relieves the stress level of walking up to a tinted car or truck if he can see the inside of it.
