Got 41k and the engine light came on. Now the transmission is lagging a bit. Any suggestions on what it could be?

are you sure its shifting out of third. My check engine light came on about 2 months ago and it was due to a problem with my ignition. The symptom was that my truck would simply refuse to shift out of third gear. This created very slow take-offs and high rpm @ speeds over 45 mph. Mine was luckily a quick fix... hope this helps...

18k and the tranny went out. Had it in gear but acted like it was in neutral. Not sure of the prob. Dropped off at the dealer will find out later. It sucks.

I was told that when the engine light comes on the truck goes in to a safe mode via the computer on board. It may be something serious or something simple. I am having it checked today. Will let you know..

ignition module did that on mine, i could manually shift to 1st, second was still first, but third was there. enough to get me to the dealer.

The best way to determine the problem is to find out the code from the check engine light. This will be more accurate than trying to guess as a multitude of different things could cause this symptom. I had it happen to mine when the butterfly on the throttle body got stuck.. the error code directed me to the culprit.

O.k. here is the deal.

Codes:

P0740 - Torque Conv. clutch solenoid
P0785 - 3-2 Shift/Timimg solenoid problem

Answer: dealer says ignition module needs replaced. Have to bring back to dealer tomorrow. They also are going to check the reason for water leaks from lights (front marker).

We'll see.......

Good Luck!! They will probably replace your marker lights as that is what they did to fix my water leak.

Bummer on the ignition mod.. I hope you are still under some sort of warranty.

Dealer will need to replace ignition switch. Not an expensive repair.
Ditto with Dewi on the replacing lights, unless your truck has a sunroof. If it has one, make sure the dealer checks the drain tubes.

Just picked up the truck. They did replace the ignition module. So far so good. As far as the leaks. The dealer ordered new front marker lights for me. He also had a guy (outside the dealership) seal all known leak areas around the truck. Not sure where all these areas are but he said they did it. He advised me these trucks do leak and they know where the common areas are. My service person Phil at Hall Hummer treated me great. Took care of everything and then some.
