Just some of the steps needed to install a Kenwood Sirius receiver onto a stock 6 disc cd changer GM radio. This post is a continuation of one I started a little while ago with the name of "Sirius Install"

Nice job KNGCOBRA!
I did as you the screwdrive thing to pop the panel out. the found you can do the same thing by sticking 2 fingers in the cig lighter wells and pulling out.

Omg! This is great! I have wanted to switch over to Sirius for a while now. Can you give me the link(s) of where to order this kit.

Also, on your pics (sorry if I missed it) but where do you plug this unit into your head unit? I saw the power source pics you chose. But I never saw anything shown or mentioned about actualy pluging in the Sirius unit to your head unit. I assume this is where the adapter is used?

Also, can you use XM + Sirius? Or did you disconnect the XM part?

Brent

Yes, the Sirius receiver plugs into the adapter and the adapter plugs into the radio and radio harness for a clean install.

NO, XM must be disconnected. I did not order XM as a factory option as I was planning on installing Sirius anyway.

Slightly off topic:
Can you add the factory XM to the 6-disk Monsoon after the fact or is it an all in 1 unit?

Thank you

Mine was an older one that I had from a previous install, but I see no reason why that one wouldn't work. You can email the "tech people" and ask just to make sure.

Thanks for the write-up! I ordered and just installed the adapter with a new Sirius tuner and it works perfect!

For anyone thinking about switching to Sirius - this is the way to go - really simple, plug-and-play installation. Takes about 45 minutes, including running the antenna wire front to back. Only difference in my install was that I put the tuner in the glove compartment because it was slightly too big to be mounted to the air box. Running wires was cake too, compared to several other cars I've installed stereos in before.

Thanks again for the pix and the info!

Do you drill or what? I'm concerned about creating an opening for water. Thanks much! great pics!

NorCal_H3 01-26-2006 02:20 AM

I ran the wire between the rubber/plastic pillar all along the top. No chance for water leaks... it's like there's an opening all around specifically for this wire! I'll take some pix and post them.
