It only is activated when you lock with the remote. If you press the button on the door it is not activated. It is deactivated by unlocking with the remote. If you lock your doors with the remote and then unlock them with your key it will go off and can be disarmed by putting the key in the ignition and starting the engine.

Can someone reccommend an alarm for extra protection? Or is it not worh it? I had my tow hitch stolen, albiet it was plastic from the dealer and I realize I need a locking hitch. I have heard that installing alarm systems after market can potentially cause damage, wiring, ruining warranty, etc. Anyone have any input or or source in northern California? TIA.

Any aftermarket item, installed incorrectly, can cause problems. If you get one, just make sure the installer is reputable, and will stand behind the product. If installed correctly, there is no problem with warranty. If they fry the BCM when installing; naturally, GM will not cover it under warranty.

Thanks f5fstop.
Still looking for refferals...
Of course, every alarm company I have spoken to, say that they are the best. LOL.

Hey, what's the BCM?

you can test by locking with fob while inside then try to open the door
