Well, crud. I feel like I have to chime in a little more. In deference to Dr. Craybas, I think a couple of things should be clarified. First, and I think Dr. Craybas will agree, there is no way anyone can diagnose your problem and provide an answer without seeing you in the chair or at a minimum, seeing an X-ray.
A dental office that has a CEREC machine has invested several hundred thousand dollars JUST for the convenience to the patient and a little more direct quality control. CEREC capable offices do provide the same services as other offices, though. Just more precise and quicker. It sounds as though your Dentist sees a reason for a crown and even if you find another dentist that uses the CEREC, they might simply crown it also, only it will be a CEREC crown. You will still have to have the tooth prepped in either situation.
Secondly, dentisty is NOTHING like a barbershop. People do not shop dentists. Those that do, are not good patients anyway. A dentist is a medical professional just like a thoracic surgeon. While it might not be life and death, the level of detail and the conditions that dentists perform their services is unlike any other medical profession. Well, I could go on and on but will digress.
You don't get second chances on adult teeth. So you don't get to go "try out" a dentist and if you don't like them, move on to the next one. If you have to have work done, ask around. Ask someone you trust and find a dentist they use. The dentist with the most modern office and best equipment is not always the better choice.
