Metal can?
Because you have 4 inches of rack depth, you can probably put your can on one of its big sides and ratchet-strap it in place. A rubber cushion between the can and rack will keep it from slipping and will protect your rack from scratches.
Or you could buy Garvin's J-can rack, which is similar to what I was building today. What I built will work but I'm not real happy with it so will likely pursue version 4. My SUT bed rack is only 2 inches deep. For a variety of reasons that are too complicated

to explain, that's giving me some headaches.
