If a GM vehicle (all models of that vehicle) comes standard with keyless entry, there is only one key cylinder and that is in the driver's door. Been like that for a few years (since 2003 I believe). However, if a car has a model (example, Saturn ION base does not offer Keyless entry) that does not have a standard keyless entry system, it will have all the door and truck lock cylinders.
Yes, it does cut the costs of a vehicle since it is redundant, and surveys showed, that most people never use a key anymore, just the remote.
The newer Vettes (C6 model), and Cadillacs have no key cylinder on the drivers door or for the ignition. They sense the FOB, the door unlocks when the drivers touches the door handle and pulls, and you just press a button to start the vehicle.

Research has a voice activated door and ignition system; but there are too many glitches in voice recognition systems at this time.

Someday, you will be able to walk up to the car, say open, get in, say start, say drive, etc., and drive away.
