A 5150 (non compos mentis) homeless guy decided it would be interesting to see what happens when you take a shopping cart for a run at full gallop and slam it, with all your body weight, into the passenger door of a Hummer. I was sitting in the truck, legally parked and talking on the phone with a Sheriff’s Deputy buddy of mine from Ski Patrol. Apparently, this fellow with the shopping cart thought I was broadcasting brain waves to him from my phone or something. It's okay; my insurance is covering my rental and all but $100 deductible. They are also covering the little dings in the driver’s door. What started out as a simple 2 door paintless dent repair has evolved into a 4 door paint job. It seems they need to “blend” the paint on the back doors to match texture with the front doors. Not usually an issue with black, but indicative of the caliber of work this shop does. The Body shop manager is a pal of mine.
I thought to save installation charges, so figured while they had all the door hardware out, I’d have some door handle bezels shipped to them to install in lieu of the factory plastic ones. (Someone told me that people are stealing H2’s by slamming screwdrivers into the plastic bezels, breaking them out and, thereby, accessing the lock mechanisms.) And you guessed it... They are CNC'd aluminum and
CHROMED!!!
Sorry Dennis, but you would have found out in Moab anyway. In my defense, my new 2 tiered brush guard is BLACK (for now, anyway. Maybe as a kid I was just around too many firetrucks. But it's hard to beat chrome on black). I'm all for black on parts that get scarred on the rock and dirt. A can of Krylon or bed liner can erase many errors in judgment. Furthermore, I just got factory U-steps (black) to hold me over until I can get rockslider/steps fabricated. You will be pleased to know, the U-steps are replacing my mirror-like stainless steel step-tubes. The tubes look great and are fine for the mallqueens, but are just too much hassle to remove and replace each time I want to get off-road. I know it’s only sixteen bolts, but WTF? Are you getting rocksliders? I got the U-steps from Jeff (partsguy). That guy is a prince! He’s really done me some big-time favors.
Save me some ****ty veggie beef!
