Hmmm....
I think the next step is just remove the damned thing and sell it and put in my own 9" touch screen CarPC with a far better Navigation package and something with a multi-CD system as well, the Nav system is nice and all, but it lacks a lot of forward thinking in it and is just not the most user friendly system I've seen...
I bought my wife a 02' Acure MDX and GM could learn a tremendous amount about user interaction and device integration from Acura, first and most importantly the Nav system is a seperate device under the passenger seat, the CD player is a seperate in-dash DIN module capable of holding 6 CD's plus a cassette deck (which is great for an iPOD with cassette interface.
The Acura system gives you the option of bypassing the lockout with a long and ugly legal screen that you have to press OK to I think it was twice, but perhaps three times before it finally allowed the bypass.
Lastly the H2 Nav is very slow to update the screen and its Navigation profile for a destination on short streets and many turns.
So, given what you've mentioned, I really think the next route will be to pull the Nav system and install a CarPC with Nav, CD changer, DVD entertainment system and XM Radio interconnect...
In the end I'll wind up with a far better system with far more user friendly interface and all the features I want and none that GM shortsightedly imposed.
Thanks...
Curt
