well, that's not true. the t-stat just opens at a certain temperature to flow the coolant. Cooling efficiency, air temp, humidity, engine efficiency, vehicle load, air flow, etc. will all ultimately determine the temps.
In Phoenix, he could effectively get away with no tstat in his system if it was running hot like he had mentioned before.
