Memorial Hospital Pediatrician Maggie Luge said, "As a pediatrician, I don't even recommend, you know, grandma's finger in the bourbon."
And this case is far from simply trying to stop a teething baby from crying. Doctors say some of the symptoms of intoxication are the same in babies and adults, such as sleepiness. But the big concern is inability to breath properly. Babies could have other symptoms as well. Luge said, "They could be irritable, they could cry a lot, there could be vomiting, diarreha. It's hard to really say."
Hard to say, because no research can be done on the subject. There is only experience, and fortunatly there is not much of that either. As Luge said, "Most parents are responsible and we fortunately don't see this too much, especially in young babies."
Sources tell FOX21 News that the baby has been released from the hospital, and has been placed in the custody of the department of human services as police continue their investigation.
