Re: Classified VIN #
I like the mod! I've had my vin covered up since day one but I just used plain cardboard, the one that you have has more class.
The key code thing is a lot easier than some people think. I can obtain key codes to just about any vehicle, over the telephone, simply by providing a vin. I do it every day. However, codes for GM vehicles consistently prove to be the hardest key codes to get, GM regularly reviews and enforces their key code security policy like no other manufacturer. That being said I regularly bypass their requirement for ID and proof of ownership by using a little known loophole and a form that anyone can download off the internet for free, it works every time, no questions asked.
When it comes to vehicle theft, ignition cylinders like the MRD found in the H3 are pretty good but they're not all they're cracked up to be. Likewise, transponder key systems that are found in most other new vehicles would only slow me down for about 30 seconds if I really wanted to take your car.
My advice is to cover vins on any vehicle that you want to keep and worry about the law enforcement officials only if you get pulled over.
